Custmer being asked to log in repeatedly during checkout

Just got this message from a customer

I seem to have problems getting past the stage of adding the item to my shopping cart - ie. the website won't allow me to checkout, as it continuously asks me to log in all the time (even though I have already logged in)

Fist time I have had this problem, but I suspect it is because they have cookies blocked, after reading through some of the threads.

I have went to Sessions and changed force cookie use to false, but would like to check on here that this will work before contacting the customer?

Thanks for any help

I would also change 'recreate session' to false. That sorted out some customer log in problems for me.

Why don't you create an account for yourself on your site and play around with the checkout to iron out any problems?

Be careful doing that. Setting "recreate session" to false can open your site up to security vulnerabilities. Actually, messing with any settings related to sessions can cause unexpected results and potential security problems.

Some hosts such as Dreamhost don't allow the Recreate Session feature to work, and as such logins will fail on their servers if it's enabled. Unfortunately that's the hosting company's decision, regardless of the security benefits they are disallowing by doing so.

Best to keep sessions settings at their default values unless you know exactly what you're doing and why.

Re: Custmer being asked to log in repeatedly during checkout

Yeah that was already set to false thanks.

I have a couple of accounts to check things out but was not getting the error, and all the other customers seem to have had no problems, just this message sounds a lot like someone who has cookies blocked. But just wanted to know for sure, as it seems to be a long time since I came across anyone who totally blocked cookies.

Just changed my cookie settings and it seems to be working so hopefully they try again.

thanks for the help.

Our messages crossed Dr Byte. Thanks for the responce

It was already set to false, and I don't think i have changed it. Would you suggest I switch it to true and leave the force cookie use to true?

But then how do I sort out the problem with this customer?

Re: Custmer being asked to log in repeatedly during checkout

Remember that if their browser has a mode such as the "Private Browsing" option in Safari, that enabling that feature will also block cookies and several other things ... and naturally that will prevent them from being able to login to your store or proceed through checkout.

Re: Custmer being asked to log in repeatedly during checkout

Thanks for that switched them to default, and just sent them a message to explain the problem.

Had allready sent them another option of payment. So all should be well.

Thanks for the help.
