Export of product files

I am wanting to export my product files to a CSV file. I have looked at the PHPmyadmin in the server part but it exported all the site to a CSV file.

Could any-one please tell me in non technical language as possible please how I can make a CSV file from the Database. I want the file done so it can be uploaded to another site and populate it when there is another Zen cart I use Easy populate but if it is another cart it isn't that easy.

I am using Host Gator also I guess it may be off help as many are using the same server set-up possibly.

Thank you for any help in advance.

Re: Export of product files

It's not really possible to provide a non-technical explanation in a forum post, since data conversions are inherently technical.

At a very high level you first need to know the file structure of the database into which you will later want to import the data.

Then you create a mapping between the existing (Zen Cart) database to show how you will populate each field in the target database. Some will be from Zen Cart data, some will be from new data and some will usually be left empty.

Then you write database queries to gather together the information identified by the mapping, and use export it.

Easy Populate imports and exports files in "Zen Cart" data format which is easier than what you're proposing and needs 2,500-odd lines of code to do so. And that doesn't include support for attributes.

So this is a big and rather technical task requiring a high degree fo knowledge of Zen Cart, your target system and databases.

Re: Export of product files

Thank you very much for your help. I can fully understand what you are saying. I thought it might be complicated but it's going to be more than that it's going to be mind blowing for me:blush:

I guess my customers will have to carry on copying and pasting at least that way no sites will get broken I just thought I could help them a bit if I could.

Thanks once again.
