How to use banner manager???

Well now I know this should be an easy one, but I have a Zen cart site and an Oscommerce site and both are very similar but I have been trying both banner managers now for ages and whatever I do the images I want never show up in the side column box!

Banner Notes:
Use an image or HTML text for the banner - not both.
HTML Text has priority over an image
HTML Text will not register the click thru, but will register displays
Banners with absolute image URLs should not be displayed on secure pages

Image Notes:
Uploading directories must have proper user (write) permissions setup!
Do not fill out the 'Save To' field if you are not uploading an image to the webserver (ie, you are using a local (serverside) image).
The 'Save To' field must be an existing directory with an ending slash (eg, banners/).

Expiry Notes:
Only one of the two fields should be submitted
If the banner is not to expire automatically, then leave these fields blank

Schedule Notes:
If a schedule is set, the banner will be activated on that date.
All scheduled banners are marked as inactive until their date has arrived, to which they will then be marked active.

Can anyone tell me exactly what to do, or direct me towards what to do??? The problem seems to be...banner group, image, image target (save to) don't know what to put in here, thank you kindly.:unsure:

Do you have the correct banner box enabled?

See ->Tools:Layout Boxes Controller and make sure that the sidebox(es) will show if there is a banner to display.

and edit footer or header banner settings to reflect your new banner group.

No I just want to put in a couple of things in the right hand side column, I would imagine that I need to go into the layout box controller and do something in there? This is what my Layout setting looks like at the moment:

Well I can get the banner in now on the side column, problem is it also appears on the left hand column too! Two identical objects, I got that simply by putting in SideBox-Banners:dontgetit

Okay...if you still have your settings in Admin/Tools/Layout Boxes Controller as in your 2nd post (thread post #3), you can turn off one of them...banner_box on the left or banner_box2 on the right.

NOTE: the Banners Group name in the banners table is limited to 15 characters ...

hint: change to 64 characters in the database table banners will have it match future releases to the database table structure ... :cool:

It's ok I can do it now, thank you everyone, it all just takes a little concentration that's all, but at least this is easier than oscommerce, but the banner manager is very similar at least:smile:

Sorry to 'hijack' this thread, but as its relating to my issue, I thought it would be better than creating new threads.

I want to have a banner that only shows on the main page, and not every other page on the site.

I have a Banner in Header Position 3, which is where I want it on the main page, but I just dont want it anywhere else.

Any help is gratefully appreciated.

You can test if you are on the "Home Page" with the variable:
$this_is_home_page

When true, you are ...

When false, you are not ... :smile:

Yes! I need to do that as well and I'm sure there must be a way to turn off banners on category and product pages but darned if I can find it. Any help on this would be lovely.
