1053 Server shutdown in progress

I am using ZenCart 1.3.8a and I send out Gift Certificate to my customers on a regular basis but the past week I have been unable to send any. I get the error message below:
1053 Server shutdown in progress

Any suggestions on why this would be happening... it worked fine until the past week or so. I have not made any changes or additions to the site.
