Still learning & trying to start.

Very simply stated, where do I begin to build my zencart store.
I've gone thru the configuration menu & have done at this point what I can do. Now I would like to start to bring in my header & my first product & the other selling tools like shipping, payment moduels, etc.

I've tried a number of things but have not had any success in making any changes. I've never done anything like this before & Im in the land of the lost right now.

Your next step should be visiting the FAQ/Tutorials link above.

Decide what you want to change/modify and then look for the FAQ/Tutorial.

If you can't find an answer - post on the forum.

Thanks! I did go & spend a lot of time on the FAQs, but have failed to make any progress. It has ten me several months to put together a website that is now about 80% done. Now I need to have zen cart to handle some very light product selling.

It's hard to admit this, but it's difficult to use the FAQs when your not even sure what questions your looking for. Frankly I read a lot of the FAQs & my reaction was:no: If I can't understand the questions being asked, what can I do with the answer:(

Im pretty good at getting to where I want to be once I find the right road. I think I need zen cart for Dummies Advanced edition:clap:

You say it has taken several months to put a site together... So it's clearly not a zencart site then.

Will you be running your zencart in a sub-directory of your main site?

Zencart needs both the front-end and the back-end stuff in order to operate.

How do you intend "incorporating" ZC into your current site (or vice versa)?

Very simply stated: you begin to build you zencart store by adding categories and products at your admin page.

My website is not a zen cart website. On my website, I will have some promotional items for sale. Not much of anything being sold, but it will be mainly apparel items so I need zen cart. I guess I will have a link between my website's selling page over to the zen, & then link back to my website.

My website is currently offline. I will probably launch it soon just to get it up & running and complete it on the fly. I guess my first problem is how I setup the jump from my site to zen & back. I assume that is nothing more than linking. The second problem I am having is that I have played around within my zen ADMIN panle, but have failed to be able to make any changes to the template. I just need to be pointed in the right direction. Im fairly good at helping myself after I get a jump start. I was well born before the cyber age & have had to learn everything on my own about it. Not an easy task. Im from the old days of manual typewriters & carbon paper copies! You might say I got here atr the end of the last ice age!

Well, I'm pre-Cambrian - so you're a baby by comparison.

1. Yes - very easy to link your zencart install with your main site. Just install ZC in a sub-directory and people can toggle between the sites via easy hyperlinks.

2. Much of the design is controlled by stylesheets, and by switches in the admin panel (SEE WHAT I SAY IN RED BELOW...).

3. If you want to explore templates that are already available, that may be more suitable for you (or easier to convert to your current site), take a look at (sorry, site offline)

Do you have firefox with web developers tool add on?
If not -get it and then look at your zencart store using the "View Style Information" option. Highlight something you may want to change and it will show you the related stylesheet section that you will want to make your changes to.
