Can I copy my sub categories to multiple main categories??
New Zenner
presently using: v1.3.9d
I am looking to copy sub categories from one main category into the other main categories in the site.
Example
Widget A
components of widget
More components of widget
ECT
Widget B
I want sub cats here but I don't want to add them one at a time
I am sure there has to be something in the code that allows me to do this but I don't want to spend hours looking for it. I am way too lazy for this.
Thank you

If I understand correctly your wanting to move one subcategory to another. If you already have the destination category already made... go to the subcategory you want... go over to the "M" circle in the same line as the subcategory you want to move... and then you can just browse to your new destination.
New Zenner
not "move", but rather "copy"
there is no "C" button next to sub-categories.

Hi I have inherited three linked sites :
happiechappie.com
happieladies.co.uk
gaysexstores.co.uk
please be aware these are adult sites
I would like to add sub categories to the Category listings to make searching easier and quicker
is there a way to do this as the categories and products are already done:unsure:
any help would be great
thank you

The new subcategories need to be created individually, but once you have the subcats in place, you can mass copy/link the products from the first one to the new ones.
New Zenner
how? pleaSe explain the steps

I would really benfit from a mass copy (unlinked) to another subcategory

So you want to create a bunch of new products that start out identical to the first set, but are not connected to them in any way?
New Zenner
exactly!
I sell parts for 15 different engines - each engine has exactly the same parts with just a different part number. If I could mass copy the parts into each engine category, then just go in and change the item number, it would make my life really simple.
I also sell parts for 30 different frames/chassis. same rule would apply

You may want to use Easy Populate to manage your products eventually, and you might use it now to download the products you have, copy/edit for the new categories, and re-upload.

I see there are 4 or 5 versions, any recommendations for me?
Black Belt
I haven't used it, but v1.2.5.4 is generally recommended as the most reliable.

Sorry to bring this up again but I don't see where the OP actually got the right/final answer. I too need the same question answered. I am running 1.5 with easypopulate and CKeditor installed with filezilla. I am setting up a automotive performance site where each type vehicle will have the same subcategories (exhausts, engine components, tuning, etc). I understand how to copy products around but I can't find anywhere nor how to copy or duplicate subcategories from one vehicle to another. Is there a way to do this or a MOD that will help with this? Or is it just a matter of hand jamming it for each vehicle?
Thanks,
Black Belt
There is no functionality for copying whole (sub)categories. You would have to individually create the new subcategories you want; then you can mass copy the products into them.

I figured as much. That is too bad. Maybe someone could figure out a way to do it for the next guy. In the meantime, I have a lot of work today.. Thanks.....

Post #106 outlines how I mass copy products. Xmasscopy (commercial add-on) also has the facility to copy a category/sub category to multiple categories/sub-categories.
