How do I use Linked Products?

Hi all, I'm using 1.3.8 and I have multiple products that fit in several categories. I know I should use Linked Products but I'm not sure how to do it? I feel like it must be very obvious and in my face, but after spending an hour searching the forums, I still don't know how to use this function. The only thing I can come up with is using the URL thing at the bottom, but I haven't yet tried it. I figured I'd post and see what others could clue me in on.

go to catalog > categories /products ,

in product listing , look for the Copy icon at your right . Click on it .
in next page , chose the category you wish to link that product to .
if you want to link to more then one category , click on multiple categories link manager at the bottom . all linked products will be represented with yellow icon indicating that product is linked .
