How does uploading template "includes" fit with override system?

I have read and read again about the override system. I still do not know how to upload Clyde Jones' templates.

The explanations of the override system seem to state I should make a folder wherever I see "classic" and upload the corresponding file in the template "includes" of the chosen template.

Clyde Jones' Zencart Zen template, for example, has 3 subfolders in its "includes" folder: modules, templates, and languages. He instructs the user to download that "includes" folder into the main "includes" folder in Zen Cart.

To conform to the overrides explanation, I tried uploading modules to modules, languages to languages, and templates to templates, but the files did not show up or seemed to disappear.

As I could not see the template in my Admin, Tools, templates, and could not therefore select it, I deleted the folder I could see (the others seemed to disappear).

I then tried putting the "includes" in its entirety into the Zen Cart "inludes" folder, wholesale.

I am still not seeing the template in my Admin, Tools, template selection.

What concept am I missing, and how may I troubleshoot this? Thanks for any help.

Don't upload the includes folder included with the template into the ZC includes folder.

Upload the includes folder included with the template to the root (this is where ZC is installed on your server.)

The files and folders in the template are in the same structure as those in ZC.

I uploaded to the includes under the www, but it is still not showing up in my Admin, Tools. I did not delete any files in the www___/zencart includes where I originally uploaded it.

The file permissions on the includes are 755. I am not sure how to troubleshoot. I refreshed the screen. It is not showing up as a template.

Is there a theory to why it just works when it goes into includes, without placing each module in a separate folder wherever the "classic" template appears, as suggested in the article on the overrides system? Any idea what I am not seeing?

I should note that Zencart is installed not in the www but in www.___/zencart, for the reason that I have Drupal installed in the www (root). Maybe that is a factor.

I should also note that I can see the ZJ_silver_wide template in my Admin, Tools, and it is installed in the www____\zencart\includes\languages\templates. I don't think I installed an includes with that template, so it may not be fully functional. I was able to see that template when I changed permissions to 755 on the includes folder.

I switched to the Zencart Zen template because I didn't fully understand how to deal with the ZJ_silver_wide choices. I appreciate the clarity of Zencart Zen and also appreciate that it prints out the middle section only, and uses the full monitor to add side boxes.

The directory structure has puzzled me for some weeks. I have studied and written out the directory structure of Zen Cart and the Zencart Zen template.

In trying to solve this, I re-read the post in the Zencart Zen template support where you specified as the top level the directory that has Admin, Cache, Docs, Download, Emails, Editors. So I will take it out of my www. includes folder and re-upload to the www___/zencart includes folder. I will let you know if it works this time. I will check all folder permissions. Sorry for the repeat messages. I didn't want to put a question out there that left something unresolved, so I am trying to see what works as soon as I have absorbed the information.

I am wondering how uploading the entire includes without placing folders where the "classic" folder is conforms to the override directory system. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

before installing any template or any module you may want to over ride your installation , dosn't matter if there is not file in override , is just there .

Only if you plan on creating your own template.

Since you are using the zencart zen template it is already set up following the override system and you don't need to do anything else.

Thank you for your help with my mistake of putting the template "includes" into the "includes" folder itself.

I also appreciate your directing me to the layout boxes controller "reset" button at the bottom of that page, a direction I had misread as applying to the "template selection" page which has no reset button. The idea of resetting the layout boxes is new territory for me.

Having tried for so many days to accomplish the correct structure, I would appreciate your clarification of what "upload the entire 'includes' folder to your server" is instructing us to do, to make this thread more enlightening.

I read in another thread that maybe I was supposed to download the template into white space in the Zen Cart directory and the files would find their own place. I believe that would be the same as dragging the template "includes" folder to the "zencart" folder.

Would either of the above upload methods be correct, resulting in the folders "finding their own place" in the directory?

You don't have to individually place the files into their proper override folders because the template structure has already done that for you. When you drop the /includes/ folder into the /zencart/ folder, all of the override folders and files will go into those locations by themselves. Same result, less work.

As Glenn said;

The template mod is already structured as the override directory.

When uploading the includes folder to your server you should upload it to where you have zen Cart installed (in your case its located in the /zencart/ folder)
