[Done v1.3.9a] Duplicate Counter History for last 10 recorded days Session - Total

I logged in to my admin area today 14 March 2009 and noticed that the "Counter History for last 10 recorded days Session - Total" section was showing the same record twice (the current days totals) ans when I opened the actual site to increase the counter both of the entries changed, so they are both live just duplicating. This is the first time it has done this.

No work has been done on the site for about 5 months and all has been working perfectly normal.

The site has been up and running since May 2008.

Check your table counter_history via phpMyAdmin ...

You should have 1 record per day in there ...

I had a look at the counter_history using phpmyadmin and to be honest I didn't really have a clue what I was looking at.

I have attached a Screen Print of the problem so you can see exactly what I am trying to describe.

Similar thing here. I have 4 repetitions of the last, 7/28/2009, record in my counter history. Didn't play with ZenCart settings recently. The only thing I rutinely do is a manual update of currency exchenge rates.

I got a triplication of the lines. Changes were adding Google Base Feeder and coupons. CounterHistory has 3 entries for the triplicated date. The USA as a zone was added but I'm pretty sure that was after the records triplicated.

I have seen this a few times but have not been able to duplicate how it is happening ...

Other than cleaning the duplicates out of the database manually, I don't really have a solution to this at this time ... :lookaroun

The problem is caused by a race condition in includes/counter.php , in particular the logic for adding new daily records if a record does not already exist.

If the code is called twice at approximately the same time two records will be created. One trigger is Yahoo which will often launch multiple spiders on a site at exactly the same time. If this happens just after midnight you can end up with multiple counter records.

... so is there a "fix" for this? During the past week I have two sets of duplicate "Counter History for last 10 recorded days".

Some sort of code to clean up the duplicate(s) if it was to happen by a multiple Yahoo spider or Googlebot?

For anyone else that has this problem, I just wanted to say that deleting just one of the duplicate rows via phpMyAdmin was easy and took care of this "anomaly" for us.

Sorry to ask but the duplicate entry on which table?
I have several tables under my "domain_znc1" database on the phpAdmin.
The only related table I see is zen_counter_history but that contains the actual data.

Upgrading to v1.3.9 has the solution built-in. No need to touch any of your tables with phpMyAdmin

Hi, I'm on v1.3.9a and I've got nothing but duplicate counter displays for the last 10 days. I've cleared up the database, and it starts replicating the same day again in the display. Since I don't see any more replies to this, apparently some people have fixed it - what's the secret?

I'll answer my own question - after doing an update, you need to make sure you upgraded the database - once I did that, the duplicate displays went away. Amazing ! RTFM !!! :)

v1.3.9b includes some fixes to this issue for older versions of MySQL, along with some other unrelated fixes.
