Meta Tags - Help a Dummy

I've scoured the forum and maybe I'm just blind. I understand what a meta tag is (I think)...but am I supposed to ADD them to each product where that little button is, you know, that little black and white button in the product line (under category).?

I'm not completely sure what to do with that button.

Does the site automatically pick up product description for the meta tags or do I add them? Is this the only way to get picked up by search engines?

Use that black button....and insure that you enter a mets description for each product and then insure that the terms in this gescription are included in the human readable product description.

More weight is placed upon this than the keywords. Try to use items/phrases that one would use when shopping/searching ofr that product.

Your goal is to have your products found by shoppers as a result they find your domain name/shop
