ozpost shipping module

RodG:

I'll give you a couple of hints.

  1. It has something to do with the size/weight of this single item compared to the size/weight of several of these items combined.

  2. It has something to do with a difference between the methods allowed for Australian Delivery vs the Methods you have allowed for overseas delivery.

In addition to this I'll give you a 'tip' - I can't remember if v2.0.5 had this or if it was something I added to v2.0.6 - Anyway, it is an 'old' tip that has been applicable to all versions of ozpost - namely, the
Hide parcel rates if letter sized ? setting, which states "If the parcel/items are letter sized would you like to hide the parcel postage rates?"

I think this description is self-explanatory, but it now comes with this:
Tip: If you dissallow letters set this to NO.

OK, so you now have two clues and a useful tip. Any ideas what the problem is yet?

That's right, you have allowed letter rates for Australian Delivery, but dissallowed them for overseas. This, combined with the fact that you have told the module to hide parcel rates if the item is letter sized, means that you simply haven't allowed any valid method to send this single item overseas.. parcel rates are hidden, letter rates not allowed.

Solutions.
1 Allow letter rates for overseas shipping
2. DON'T hide the parcel rates if the item is 'letter sized'.
3. Alter the minimum weight/dimensions of the item(s) so they will never be classified as being suitable for letter rates.

My recommended solution is #2 (if you really want to dissallow overseas letter rates), or, Solution#1 if you wish to offer your customers the cheapest possible postage.

Apologies for making you 'work' to get to these solutions (I've had to work harder to get here too), but i beleive that if I can make people think about some of these kinds of problems rather than simply asking for and expecting answers, over the longer term this early effort is sure to pay off. :-)

Cheers
Rod

Thanks Rod, but I have always allowed for letters for overseas. We didn't make changes to ways we sent items. If I look at my admin section for Ozpost I see the following options ticked for Overseas: Letters, Registered Letters, Air Parcels, Registered Air Parcels and Insured Air Parcels.

Is there something else obvious that I am over looking?

I don't mind working for the answer, I am only a dumb end user so you have to use little words and big hints

Did you check, as per Rod's suggestion, the size/weight of the item that was causing the issue ?

Mike

It's not just that one item though, it's every small item that would trigger a letter size package rather than a parcel.

The size/weights of each item in the store are the same as they were prior to the weekend when things went wrong. Nothing was changed, it went from working to not working. I didn't change anything, I didn't uncheck/check anything.

I'm not sure what I am missing here.

Re: ozpost shipping module

vandiermen:

these 1.3.9 files have been added to the new ozpost module so it is compatible with the new zencart;

I've just been comparing files (trying to figure out what/why changes are needed), and what you have stated isn't true. The changes made were simply to keep the ozpost modified files synchronised with the latest distribution version. If this is causing a problem with the FCKeditor then the current release zencart code would/should be producing the same problems.

vandiermen:

however if your using 1.3.8 and want to update your ozpost and still use your FCKeditor... the new ozpost only updated these files to make it compatible with 1.3.9

Not so.

vandiermen:

and you don’t need to update the admin update_product.php and collect_info.php if your using 1.3.8; am I correct rod?

If these files are already installed from a previous version of ozpost then they probably don't need to be re-installed unless you want the other fixes and changes made by the zencart team, in which case, yes, these should be replaced.

vandiermen:

attached are the 2 files for 1.3.8/1.3.8a that should fix your problem, but we better get the ok from rod.

Sorry, but I am going to have to give the 'safe' answer here - and that is, if you are running zencart 1.3.7 or 1.3.8 you shouldn't have any problems using these admin files from ozpost v1.x.x
If you are using zencart 1.3.9 then you should be using the files from ozpost v2.x.x

I am not aware of any FCK compatibilty problems that exist as a result of any changes made to these files, and any that do exist would exist regardless of the modifications made for or by ozpost itself.

I've not done a 3way comparision between my changes, the changes made by the zencart team and your changes. If you have taken my changes and the changes made by the zencart team and back-ported and 'fixed' things for V1.3.8 then your submission certainly has my 'blessing', otherwise I have to stick to my 'safe' response.

Cheers

Tell me, did you type in the "Letters, Registered Letters, Air Parcels, Registered Air Parcels and Insured Air Parcels" text above, or was that a copy and paste?

Hey, we are all dumb until we know the answers :-)

Anyway, back to where we was.... if that was a copy/paste I can see something very subtely amiss that will explain the symptoms, but not the cause. I don't wish to follow this path if I can avoid it though.

Also, regardless of that, could I please ask you to set the 'hide parcel rates if letter sized' to 'NO', and let me know if it makes any difference at all.

that was me typing it in, a cut and paste of the items allowed looks like this

Shipping Methods for Overseas
Letters, Registered Letters, Air Parcel, Registered Air Parcel, Insured Air

Also, regardless of that, could I please ask you to set the 'hide parcel rates if letter sized' to 'NO', and let me know if it makes any difference at all.

It brings up the parcel rates for o/s but not letters, those are still missing.

Bugger... that is NOT what I wanted to see.

AussieMaille:

This however is what I expected.

The next bit of faultfinding/debugging could get a little 'messy' in that we are heading into unchartered waters, so, before we start that I have one more thing for you to do first..

Go to your admin section, modules/shipping, selct the 'i' button for the ozpost multiquote module. Hit the 'REMOVE' button, and then hit the INSTALL button.

If we are both lucky this will solve your problem (the 'remove' will clear out all existing configuration data and settings from the database, the install will re-install a fresh set.

You'll need to reset you methods and handling fees again, but this action won't alter the weights/dimensions of any of your products.

If this STILL doesn't solve your issue then a re-install of all of the ozpost files will be in order (especially as I have already identified that at least on of the files is incorrectly located, so there may be a connection there too).

Cheers
Rod

ps. I have high hopes that the remove/install is all you really need.

Re: ozpost shipping module

(sorry ignore my post, my site is somehow working against the mysterious error!)

Hi RodG,

Just in case you missed my prev. message...
My ozpost recently stopped working (couldn't get rates so it use the maximum $25/$99). So I've just upgraded to version v2.0.5 from the zencart website. Now all seems to be working again.

However, I cannot get "Hide parcel rates if letter sized ? No" to work, as it either shows letter OR parcel, not both. I basically want an express option for letter sized products as well.

Hope you can guide me a bit here,

thank you very much for your help.

I think this has done it. So far it all looks good.

Will have the man look into the other problem you mentioned previously.

Rod, thank you for all the time you have spent on this....fingers crossed this is all that was needed.

Sweet. I wish all were this easy :flex:

AussieMaille:

I seem to recall mentioning a misplaced /languages/ file ... you can probably ignore this ... The thing that made me think it was missing is now showing OK (no doubt, it was also affected by the reinstall).

The only other thing to take a look into is the replacement tpl_modules_ file. Ozpost works perfectly well without this, but the replacement tidies up the display a little bit (by removing the superflious "(" and ")", as well as removing the un-needed/unused dropdown selections.

Cheers
Rod

ps. My 'clue' as to the the reason for your problem came from
"Letters, Registered Letters, Air Parcel, Registered Air Parcel, Insured Air"

Compare this with what you'll now see... can you spot the difference?

Currently it is displaying as Letters., Registered Letters., is that the difference the full stop? Or am I even more red faced than before?

Re: ozpost shipping module

RodG:

I can't really determine from this error message WHICH of these settings is causing your problem, the "safe_mode" setting or "an open_basedir is set"

I think the easiest fix would be to edit the ozpost.php code, line 713 by commenting out (or deleting) that particular line of code. This line of code MAY be needed in the future, but is currently superflious.

Did the icon files get uploaded correctly to the right place? Have you tried any of the other icons types (this module contains 3 complete sets of icons, selectable by filetype. (jpg, gif or png) with the additional option of no icons at all (text only).

Hopefully this will help solve your problem(s).

Cheers
Rod

Hi Rod,

Everything is now working with the exception of the icons. I still get placeholders no matter what type of icon I select and this doesnt change even if I say no icons.

Any ideas?

Yes! That's the difference, and there wouldn't be any need to be red faced about it anyway. I am probably the only person in the world that would've picked up on that. It is a result of the problem I had with naming conventions. Even though "Australia" and "Overseas" are segregated, the actual shipping methods need to be uniquely identified. "Letters" without the fullstop indicate Australia and with the fullstop overseas. In other words your overseas letters were being considered as local and therefore not appearing. To me, it indicated something amiss with your configuration data :-)

Re: ozpost shipping module

IMPORTANT NOTICE. ozpost v1.0.2 has a bug that is affecting a number of users/installations (but not all).

If you have been having problems obtaining shipping quotes from around 4th June 2010 there are two solutions.

  1. Upgrade to the latest ozpost module (currently v2.0.6)

  2. Make the following changes to the file /includes/modules/shipping/ozpost.php

Line 338 (or thereabouts) reads // Server query string // (or similar)

Immediately after this insert the following line:

$HOST= str_replace(" ", "+", $HOST) ;

Then change the line after from:

$qu = $this->_getAPdata($SERVER, "/postage.php?fromcode=" . MODULE_SHIPPING_OZPOST_SPCODE ."&destcode=$dcode&weight=$parcelweight&height=$parcelheight&width=$parcelwidth&length=$parcellength&value=$ordervalue&flags=$flags&$method=$method&host=$HOST&version=$VERSION") ;

To:

$qu = $this->_getAPdata($SERVER, "/postage.php?fromcode=" . MODULE_SHIPPING_OZPOST_SPCODE ."&destcode=$dcode&weight=$parcelweight&height=$parcelheight&width=$parcelwidth&length=$parcellength&value=$ordervalue&flags=$flags &host=$HOST&version=$VERSION") ;

(Specifically, you will be deleting "&$method=$method" from the line). Not only is '$method' not used/required here, but it is syntaxually incorrect).

Resave the file, and all should work again.

To the best of my knowledge no other versions are affected.

Cheers

Still not getting any rates.

I'll have a look at option 1 later and report back..

Re: ozpost shipping module

RodG:

Please provide an example.

Generally speaking the rates provided will be accurate or not provided at all. Where there is a discrepancy between what the user expects and what the module provides it is the user that has it wrong.

Not an easy task considering V2 has a lot more settings than V1 :-)

Also, take careful note of the way the handling charges are defined, as some of them are applied differently between the versions.

Again, I need specific examples.

Yes, they have changed since V1.x..x but it shouldn't make any difference in regards to accuracy because the quotes are obtained in real time so you should always get the most up to date rates.

That's what they all say. Seriously, I've now lost count of the number of people that are still using the obsolete 'AustPost' module that hasn't been able to produce a valid quote for well over a year now, that have pretty much insisted it was fine until recently.

Strange: My test (your site)

3 Days Estimated Delivery.
Includes $2.00 Packaging & Handling. ) $11.90

3 Days Estimated Delivery.
Includes $2.00 Packaging & Handling. ) $13.30

I've no explanation why it doesn't show for you.

Cheers
Rod

Hi Rod,
I'll send you my site and login details in a PM.

Currently suburban VIC shipments are charged at $7.45 + $1 handling = $8.45 total which is correct, however country VIC is charged at $16.25 + $1 = $17.25, where previously was $16.15 total. I've used the same handling fee config. I'll keep playing around with the handling fees and see if it's different, but currently it looks like the fees are at least applied differently.

With regards to the satchels, your test was for aussiemaille's site, not mine. I'll PM you my site. It's strange because i've enabled auspost satchels and auspost express satchels but only auspost satchels come up.

Also, trying to get TNT up which is a great feature. Unfortunately it's also not showing up. I'm not exactly sure which of my logins to use, though. TNT website has a few. I've used my username and password and it doesn't show up. I've also used my email and password. My account number should be OK.

Anyway, if you could give me some clues it would be much appreciated.

Mike_Dean:

Hi Rod, went with option 2 and changed the file, but unfortunately, no change..

Not sure what to say. I eventually managed to gain access to a site that was exhibiting this issue. and the changes I suggested/recommended cured the problem stone dead.

It is also no longer a mystery to me as to what is/was went wrong. The syntax error and/or spaces in the store name were both causing the client version information to not be passed on to the server. One of the more recent changes made to the server was to use this version information to determine whether to attempt to get TNT & FastWay quotes... No point in wasting CPU power returning quotes that the client doesn't support.

In an unrelated piece of server code where the version was unspecified the "default" code would just 'work', but due to a tightening of security and data validation the null input is preventing this behavior and exiting early.

I can't think of any reason whatsoever why the fix wouldn't work for you.

Perhaps you edited the wrong file? (I probably shouldn't admit this, but I wasted the best part of an hour yesterday because I was editing the file from a backup folder rather than the live site. Doh! )

Cheers
Rod
