Adding Donation box to my site

Hi,

I was wondering if this is something I could do. I run a thrift shop and would like to give my customers the option to donate to St. Judes Research, either putting in a set amount like a $1 or being able to put their own amount (i would prefer this option.)

Is there an addon or some coding upon checkout that I can do?

Setup a category called donations
Setup some donation products of different values and free shipping of course.
Then simply add a link to your homepage text that points to the category, and of course the category will show in the list of categories all the time.

There is a blank box addon that you can use to show the products too but It will take some memory jogging for me to type that out.

I just started with Zen Cart. All I want is one page for donations with an empty field for the client to add any amount. I have searched high and low, but don't see anything so simple.

You could use Document Product type and customize that page to look more Donation oriented ... then add a Product as Document Product type for 1.00 and they can make a Donation of any amount ...

Well, they really do not seem to be tutorials in a 1,2,3 do-this sense.

Any suggestions? I'd really like to make this work. It is for a friend setting up a school in Rwanda. They had a site hosting their donations, but they pulled out. Now I am supposed to set up a simple donation page.

Just a thought - could you modify something like the gift wrap add-on?

I think this would appear in the 'shipping area' at checkout which would make the most sense to me.

During step 2 of checkout, customers can now check a box to add a $1 donation to their order. Easy peasy!

I haven't seen the mod, but if it is built according to standards, it will have a "defines" file where all output text is defined (this allows for multiple languages). Change the wording there and you should be able to get the look you want.

Regarding using the Optional Shipping Insurance module mentioned by vatertime it appears (from reading documentation) that it generates the insurance rate based on the value of the order. It's not geared to offer the visitor a choice of how much to pay (or donate).

If you are only trying to set up a donation site and not sell products there are probably better solutions out there than Zencart. Try googling "online donation sites".
