Product name duplicated in browser title bar

I am using v. 1.3.8a, with no templates.
Whenever I go to a product I see it's name duplicated in the browser's title bar.
Example: John John [John]
If I omit the product's model I get: John John []
Please somebody explain.

Configuration >> Product Info >> Meta Tags - Include Product Model in Title

and remember that using the override in the product entry Meta tags will also override this on a per product basis.

Thanks for quick answer.
Changed the setting you mentioned in Product Info, however I am still getting [model] in title bar.
Weird, huh?
I removed product name in the metatags for product, and, yes, I got the duplicate name removed.
This raises another question, I am inputting metatags and description for each product because I am building an internal search engine, where users can input keywords to find the product they need.
Will the removal of product name from metatags affect how the search engine works?

I also set Product Info --> Include product price in title to 0, but the price still shows.
Apparently it's not taking settings in database.
Restarted dev comp to no avail.

Show Metatags Title Default - Product Title
Show Metatags Title Default - Product Name
Show Metatags Title Default - Product Model
Show Metatags Title Default - Product Price

From these 5 settings the only one that is set to true is Product Name.
However, I am getting the same thing all over again.
The moment I enter a title in the product's metatags, it will show in title bar.
Baffling.

Now I even set Product Name to false to no avail.

I see what's going on.
As Melanie said, metatags in product will override database settings.
If I don't set any metatags, I just get product name + website title.
The moment product metatags go in, I get duplicate names + model + price.
I guess I will have to live with that, because metatags are more important for me than the title bar.

I got it!
Title settings are controlled by the 5 options on top of the product metatags.
I think this only affects the way metatags are displayed in title bar, not the inner workings of metatags.
Would appreciate if some guru would confirm.

Me simple-minded, slow motion, urgh.
Question for guru: if I set for example Product Name to show and Product Title to NO, the end result in title bar is the same as if I do the inverse.
Does this matter at all for the way the search engine looks at it?
Do any of these settings impact search engines or are they just cosmetic for title bar?

The title bar is controled by the "Title" function which IS the product name unless you override it with another.

The title is a head element which also displays as the page title in your browser tab and is the #1 on page ranking factor for the purpose of organic search.

Hmmm.
So what do you suggest?
I don't think that product model or price will help me much with organic searches, maybe site tagline will.
Meta Title or Product Name are the same, so either way should be good.
So, bottom line, include site tagline in title too?

I've found it. I tried the way stated here and it did not work. I had to go into each product metatags and the radio buttons at the top

Mark What the Product's Meta Tag Title Should Include:
Product Name:
Title:
Model:
Price:
Title/Tagline:

I disable all except the title (the 2nd one). When i check now, the title alone shows up and its also in the "view page source", so search engines would pick it up.

Hope this helps anyone who needs to fix this problem.
