Max Categories Per Page

Is there a way to limit the number of categories to display per page similair to limiting the number of products to display per page?

unfortunately this is not what i am looking for. we have about 80 different sub categories under one larger category "Toys". All of these sub categories apear on one page. The admin configuration max values doesnt seem to limit this number per page.
