Wamp wamp wamp - can't get wamp to run

Hi All,

I've tried to install WAMP for the zillionth time so I can create a zencart test site and can't seem to get it to work. maybe someone can help me out before i start hitting the bottle of tequila :wacko:

Dowloaded instructions from the Addons (although the instructions are different from the steps that I was prompted to take)

  1. downoaded Wamp
  2. Hit Run
  3. agree to 'terms & conditions'
  4. save to c/drive
  5. create desktop icon
  6. click 'install'
  7. click 'no' to installing wamp server 2 homepage (this would overwrite index.php- although I did click 'yes' one time though it made no difference)
  8. clicked 'install' & Lauch (nothing happens)

tried opening the program thru start>all programs>wampserver>start wampserver (doesn't work either)

Click on icon on my startup tool bar and clicked on 'start all services' (no go)

I've also hit 'Put Online' and get error message 'could not execute ...internal error...'

not sure if it's something i did or there is a conflict with this program.

thanks in advance for your help!

Mw,
Turn off your firewall, and then see if Wamp will run

Re: Wamp wamp wamp - can't get wamp to run

I just installed WampServer2 on XP using the instructions from haredo's link and, after loading Zen Cart into it, it really works flawlessly. The instructions aren't 100% accurate, for example, the wrong url was provided to launch the Zen Cart installer, but close enough to manage without major problems. You mentioned in point 8 that nothing happens when you launched Wamp, well I don't think much is meant to happen except the programs starting up in the background. Once they are started up, you're supposed to then select 'Localhost' from the system tray icon (which should be white?). You should then see a screen similar to page 9 of the instructions. If so, you can then continue with the instructions, page 10 onwards.

In c:\wamp\www, do you have an index.php file?

Re: Wamp wamp wamp - can't get wamp to run

I may have spoke too soon :blush:

I got to the next stage, but now I'm supposed to open phpadmin and I'm getting the HTTP 403 page again. Here are the instructions given;

Close out all open windows and be sure all your services are still
running. Now we are ready to change your root user’s password,
we will be using phpMyAdmin to configure your users permissions
table. So, from the tray icon select phpMyAdmin in the tray menu
and you will be taken to the main phpMyAdmin home page

I tried stopping service for Apache since it's on that port, but that didn't work...not sure what the next step is. Sorry, I know this should be straight-foward at this point.

thanks!

Re: Wamp wamp wamp - can't get wamp to run

You can still use Skype. In Skype, you need to go to Tools -> Options -> Connection and uncheck "Use port 80 and 443 as alternatives for incoming connections".

The 403 error is different to the 404 error that you had before. 403 is generally to do with access and permissions. Have you tried turning off Windows firewall? Also make sure all services are running, including Apache. If that fails, perhaps try WampServer2.

Re: Wamp wamp wamp - can't get wamp to run

Hi,

Firewall is off, so i don't think that is the problem. I downloaded version WampServer 2.0g-1 [3-19-09]. i'm going to uninstall it and reinstall one from an earlier date [12-03-19] and see if that makes a difference.

thanks!

Re: Wamp wamp wamp - can't get wamp to run

The only other thing I can think of is that some of your folders/files, such as C:/wamp/apps/phpmyadmin3.1.1, were set to read-only. You can check by right-clicking on them and selecting properties. They were probably okay though since I think you would have had to manually set them to read-only for that to happen.

Re: Wamp wamp wamp - can't get wamp to run

it's so frustrating it makes me want to laugh...but i'm determined to get this thing working.

Ok, so was about to reinstall it and access my phpadmin (the only thing I did different was use firefox as my default and i think i had an old wamp file still on my computer that i had not deleted from installing and uninstalling so many times)

Anyway, changed by password under priviledges

Opened c:/wamp>apps>phpmyadm>clicked on config.inc.php. (which opens up in my editor, Komposer)> made changes to file as directed:

Find this line:
$cfg['Servers'][$i]['password'] = '';
Change it to:
$cfg['Servers'][$i]['password'] = 'xxxxxx';

Hit>Save

Now when I hit phpmyAdmin I get a blank white screen????

I played with the config file thinking I had an extra space, but nothing worked. Any ideas?
