Products in top level category

I'm using EP
Some products are showing up in top level categories which causes sub-categories not to display.
I know I can delete the products and the sub-categories will display but this is very time consuming when updating the database every day.
I don't post much because I read a lot. I have yet to find an answer. Is it because the products are linked?

Click on COMPUTER ACCESSORIES there should be sub-categories.
