Adding price per letter

Our shop sells Dogtags, and have a set cost per letter/symbol/space when printing them.
The becomes a problem on the page, as the only option to make the program calculate price is to make 150 unique attributes...
Not a good option.

Is there a way for zencart to count letters in a given box (using the TEXT option for an attribute), calculate letters/keys/spaces and add this to the base price of the item?

I would regard my level of competence with coding etc as a mere tad over an experienced pong-player.

Re: Adding price per letter

Zencart's ATTRIBUTES feature has the capacity to allow a user to INPUT a string of text into a text field, and for the price to be calculated - either by LETTER or by WORD (you can choose).

So if you have a product called "Circular Brass Dogtag", you can add a TEXT attribute that will allow the customer to insert any letters/numbers they want - each adding a bit to the price. You can also LIMIT the input to a given quantity of characters, if you want to.
