Getting HOME_PAGE_TITLE as title

Hey guys. I am not sure how much a problem this is, but I am getting HOME_PAGE_TITLE as my title when I visit:

http://www.decaldepot.net/index.php?main_page=

I noticed this as my link to Online Catalog from the admin side is the above link. Any idea on why this is happening? I've searched for HOME_PAGE_TITLE in all my files and didn't come up with any hits other than as a variable name.

Re: Getting HOME_PAGE_TITLE as title

HOME_PAGE_TITLE was added to the meta_tags.php language file in v1.3.8 as part of meta tags improvements.

Re: Getting HOME_PAGE_TITLE as title

Right. This is what I have defined:

// NOTE: If HOME_PAGE_TITLE is left blank (default) then TITLE and SITE_TAGLINE will be used instead.
define('HOME_PAGE_TITLE', 'Your Decal and Sticker Store : Decal Depot.net'); // usually best left blank

I get HOME_PAGE_TITLE regardless of what is in the above mentioned variable.

Re: Getting HOME_PAGE_TITLE as title

In which file have you defined that?

When I go to http://www.decaldepot.net/index.php?main_page= I see the constnat name.
When I go to http://www.decaldepot.net/index.php?main_page=index or just http://www.decaldepot.net/ I see the defined title name.

This suggests that you've got the constant defined in the wrong file, or have some other set of customizations installed that are preventing the language files from loading properly on various pages.

Re: Getting HOME_PAGE_TITLE as title

That's the part that is confusing me. I have it set in:

/includes/languages/english/My_Custom_Template/meta_tags.php

Nah, it's still broken. I only really see the problem in the link above. It works fine for other pages.

I don't know that it's that big of a problem, more a curiosity of why it's doing what it's doing.

Re: Getting HOME_PAGE_TITLE as title

go to: Tools>Developers Tool Kit

in the bottom imput box titled "Look-up in all files" put:

HOME_PAGE_TITLE

and choose "All Files Look-ups: all files catalog/admin"

Click Search, and it will tell you which file is putting it there. and then you can go in ftp and edit that file to change/remove text.

Re: Getting HOME_PAGE_TITLE as title

Thanks for the reply. Here's what I'm seeing:

/includes/languages/english/meta_tags.php
Line #22 : // NOTE: If HOME_PAGE_TITLE is left blank (default) then TITLE and SITE_TAGLINE will be used instead.

Line #23 : define('HOME_PAGE_TITLE', 'Your Decal and Sticker Store : Decal Depot.net'); // usually best left blank

and

**/includes/modules/meta_tags.php
**Line #100 : define('META_TAG_TITLE', (HOME_PAGE_TITLE != '' ? HOME_PAGE_TITLE : (defined('NAVBAR_TITLE') ? NAVBAR_TITLE . PRIMARY_SECTION : '') . TITLE . TAGLINE));

Re: Getting HOME_PAGE_TITLE as title

Hmm that is very odd. Seems to happen only when on the index.php?main_page part of it. I think this url is initially the home page same as just typing in decaldepot.net. Its just not pulling up the title for that page. What might be an idea is if you could direct that page to the home page. Maybe some rule in the .htaccess file if thats where it gos, not sure.

I was reading about this in some seo forum. My home page was getting split between 2 identical pages. ravsappliances.com and ravsappliances.com/index.html. I became aware that this isnt good for seo so i redirected the index.html page to just the domain as i only had this problem on the home page. Not sure if its the same or not but just an idea if its only affecting that page and the issues bugging you.

By the way i love your layout. How did you get the boarder of the page to bend on the edges with a nice thickness? or is it an image?

Re: Getting HOME_PAGE_TITLE as title

@stri8ed, Thank you, but I've never seen a solution based on changing values in the modules. I know how I can force ably fix it, but I'm curious if this is some kind of little bug.

@abs007 Yes, I'm pretty sure a 301 redirect would work just fine but I don't know why this would be necessary. In other words, I'm still looking for the problem so that I can solve it. Thank you for the compliment. I'm guessing you are referring to the rounded corners? If so, it's an image.

NO ... that is BAD advice. You should refrain from editing files in the "modules" folder if at all possible. And, if you do, then you should be saving your changes in the appropriate override folder anyway.

So, it suggests that it might be a bug introduced by an addon or customization added to the site.

Quite possible. That settles it. I'll (hopefully) fix it with a redirect.

Hi There,

I wanted to use this parameter but I'm still running 1.37 ...
What are the options to use a title for the homepage only within 1.37?

At the moment 'title' param affects all of my site metatags

Many thanks,

That template includes an outdated meta_tags.php file...find it and merge it to the default 1.3.8a version
