pre-scaled medium image not appearing as size I specified

Hi, I have a product with the following images in these directories;

images/talkingsw.jpg
images/medium/talkingsw_MED.jpg
images/large/talkingsw_LRG.jpg

the medium and large images are pre-scaled size images, the large shows perfectly fine with the sizes I specified it to be, however the medium image won't show correctly, it seems to be the auto scaled size that is set as 250x250 in zen cart, however I thought that pre-sizing the images and then uploading them through ftp by-passed auto scaling and the odd thing is that this isnt happening with another product, whose med and lrg images are all appearing as i specified. All images are in the correct directories. Really can't understand why the medium image isnt appearing correctly for this product, yet is for another I added a while ago. Also just tested this problem with adding a new product and the same thing happens, lrg image is size specified but medium image is zen cart auto scale size. Please help!

Re: pre-scaled medium image not appearing as size I specified

These set the width and height of your Product Info page's image:
Configuration > Images > Product Info - Image Width
Configuration > Images > Product Info - Image Height

If you have a 200 x 200 image and set those to 190 x 180 you will have a 180 x 180 image displayed.
If you have a 200 x 200 image and set those to 400 x 400, it will not stretch the image out.

As a good rule of thumb I would make all of my _MED images uniform and set those settings to match.

What do you have set for:

Configure > Images > Calculate Image Size

Re: pre-scaled medium image not appearing as size I specified

Thanks for your help but I'm still really confused and my problem is far from solved.

how come I have some medium sized images appearing as the correct size i specified when sizing in photoshop? for example this one:
http://www.thegreatgiftshop.co.uk/zencart/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=1_3&products_id=2

and this one:

http://www.thegreatgiftshop.co.uk/zencart/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=1_3&products_id=3

they are examples of how the images should be appearing and how i want all other product images to appear, how can i achieve this? and how come i could achieve this with these images and not with the watch one? I've done exactly the same. Really getting frustrated here, help, please!

p.s I had calculate image size to true, i changed it to false and no change, have changed it back to true though.

Re: pre-scaled medium image not appearing as size I specified

plus I really cant make all my product info med size images the same size, well they are the same width but I really cant make them all the same height because i have some long thing shaped images and some square, plus i have hundreds of images already sized to 250 wide and want to keep them that way with their set height and I achieved this at first with the two examples given so it must be possible! but i really am baffled as to why im getting this problem with products i now add.

Re: pre-scaled medium image not appearing as size I specified

I seem to have solved the problem!! config>product image-height was set to 250 so any med images I had re-sized with a height bigger than 250 were being re-sized, I simply changed the setting to 400 and now my 250 x 319 image shows the correct, full size with no distortion! Thanks for all your help anyway.

Sorry I bailed out on this one. Power surge fried my router. Had to do the tour de electronics stores...

That was what I was trying to imply with this comment

nixonmg:

Glad you got it figured out!

Re: pre-scaled medium image not appearing as size I specified

Yep finally got it! Thanks for all your help. One more thing... My images on the product info page will only display the full size i sized them to if i set config>images - small image width and height to a size big enough to take these images, but then it sets all other small images used on the site to a bigger size, eg the new products side box. Is there a way round this other than choosing not to display the new product side box? So I want my product info additional images to remain the size they are but dont want to have to affect the size of the small images which I've had to do for now as have had to set small image size big enough to display my pre-sized additional images.

Re: pre-scaled medium image not appearing as size I specified

Ok, I'm having problems very similar to what you were having. I can upload the images, sometimes, other times it just sits there for 10 minutes or so and attempts to upload it for the attributes and normally. Sometimes it takes me to an error code type thing but it isn't really a code its a bunch of {,[,(,), letters and numbers that looks like a sentence. But I haven't been able to replicate that problem for a few hours now. But no matter what I do the pictures won't display. I've checked under the configuration tab -- nothing works. It doesn't even display the "No Picture Available" graphic. It removes the entire area where the picture would be. I can't even add a picture normally to a product that has attributes applied to it, it just sits there attempting to load the page. Sometimes it even does it for products without attributes which is what really confused me. We have the most current version of Zen-Cart. I have modified the template a bit but only the colors and sizes. This is still a work in progress, heres the link rocpaperscissors. com /Shop
When you get there go under the "All Occasion" category. I haven't been able to get all of the pictures up yet but the ones that is having a problem that you can see is on the first page and is called "Java Joe's". The thumbnail is there but the it isn't on the product page. :frusty:

Thanks,
Scott & Rosa

I finally got it to give me the error message again. This is what it says:

1064 You have an error in your SQL syntax; check the manual that corresponds to your MySQL server version for the right syntax to use near 'n Tag.jpg' where products_attributes_id = '1116'' at line 2
in:
[update ROCproducts_attributes set attributes_image = 'attributes/Bag 'n Tag.jpg' where products_attributes_id = '1116']
If you were entering information, press the BACK button in your browser and re-check the information you had entered to be sure you left no blank fields.

I don't know what it means sooo....

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Scott & Rosa
