broken define pages... what did I do wrong?

I recently upgraded my cart to 1.3.8. On the old version I had pages added to the information sidebox. I'm trying to replicate those on the new version, but I'm running into issues. One of the pages I added is working, but the other four aren't. I can edit them using the define pages editor, but the content of the pages does not show up. It seems as though something is broken because the footer and right sideboxes of those pages have also disappeared.

I've spent some time searching the forum for a similar issue, but have come up blank. I'm sure it's something like an extra/missing character in one of the files, but I just don't know where to look. Thanks in advance for the help.

An example of what I mean... The about us page is working http://sudzndudz.com/index.php?main_page=about_us but the FAQ page is not http://sudzndudz.com/index.php?main_page=faq

Look in you admin - configuration - define pages and make sure the pages are set to display.

Good suggestion! I did forget to check there, but all the values are set to 1. This problem is still stumping me. :wacko:

Yes, I used the module for adding pages to the more information sidebox, but added the links to the information sidebox instead. I just find it strange that one is working, but the rest aren't. I must have goofed in my copy and paste at some point, but I'm just not sure where to look for this problem. There were so many files added/edited for each one.

I'm having the exact same problem, not at all sure what I've done wrong... I uploaded a 301 redirect ht.access file... not sure if that was the problem, or something else. :frusty:

I wonder if its the host, you're not with Terra Network are you?

I rang up the host, turns out I had uploaded a new .htaccess file which overwrites an existing .htaccess necessary for Zen cart to work. I had Seo friendly urls turned on, which wont work without the old .htaccess file.

I rang up the host, they reinstalled the old .htaccess file for me.

I just had the same problem...changing something in the sideboxes (adding a banner) and it never showed up plus the footer is gone.

Can someone from the Sensei's help here?
How do you debug something like this? Using 1.3.8a

Sometimes restoring a backup is the easy way, but I would like to learn how to debug this kind of problems.

If I may state the obvious, if you change something and it breaks things... then change it back.

With that said, you have incorrect coding presumably in your Banner code if it is in the right side column. Only by editting the original file (you previously changed) can the problem be corrected.

Well...the funny thing is i did not change anything in the code, I did everything in the admin section...so...that's what's puzzling.

Well--now I think this problem was caused by some elf or something.
I logged on this morning from another PC and everything looks fine...Only different OS version (XP vs Vista)
I wonder if people could go to my site and verify they can see a right colum "new products" box and the footer...maybe reply with a private message so we don't saturate this post.
I'll try rebooting, resetting, refreshing again my PC at home later on.

Today I checked your site with the some computer / Browser that I did yesterday.
Yesterday it was broken, today it is working. The Elves did a good job. :smile:

Two things worth noting.

1. Somebody has been changing files, specifically "/YOUR_TEMPLATE/common/html_header.php" as Zen Cart default does not use this code:

2. If this problem happens again you should check: Admin > Tools > Server / Version Info
   Could be there are problems on the Hosting side.
