Trodden:
Understandable... basically I'm looking for a quick and easy solution to the fact that I need to disable taking payments on the site for a few weeks while still keeping all the products active and visible. I'd like to put up a custom notice to customers regarding this. If you've got a better suggestion I'd love to hear it..
See, it's always best to post about the real matter, instead of jumping to a specific approach. In your case this has nothing to do with Authorize.net or Testing mode.
Instead, you really just want to put up a custom notice to all customers about current website news. Doing that is easy:
-
disable all your payment modules -- this will prevent checkout from working at all, but the general surfing around the catalog will be fine
-
Then you can go to Admin->Configuration->Website Maintenance, and
a) click on "Date and hours for notice before maintenance" and change that text to a short notice that purchases will not be functional until XXXXXX date.
b) click on "NOTICE PUBLIC before going down for maint on/off" and set it to True.
To re-enable purchases, reverse steps 1 and 2(b).
Oh, and, by the way, you should never be having a payment module in "testing mode" when running on a live site ... because customers who checkout in test mode will think their card has been charged, when in fact nothing has really happened! And then you will be wondering how to get your money ... with the only option being to ask the customer to do the transaction again.
