Input price in one currency but display in another?

Hello,

I was wondering if it was possible for product prices to be added in one currency and then have them automatically be converted and displayed in another currency in the store?

Eg, the prices we have are in USD but we want them displayed in AUD with the appropriate conversion rate.

I wouldn't be surprised if there's a simple solution to this but I'm a bit lost.

Thank you.

Sadly, I don't think there is an "easy" solution.

Currency exchange rates are dynamic, so you would have to develop a mechanism (possibly through a cron job) that calls up the prevailing exchange rate and then applies that factor across the prices in the store. As this factor is dynamic, the programming would have to parse the variable at frequent intervals - and you may end up with a situation that a shopper's cart "fluctuates" in value while they are visiting your store!

I don't know of any "standard" ZC mechanism that can be adapted to perform this operation. It may require some nifty programming - possibly by someone with a very good knowledge of the inner workings of the algorithms that display pricing in the store.

Thank you for answering.

The cron job for the exchange rate is not a problem as I think there's something concerning that already available for zencart. It's the currency display that's my main concern as I'd like to be able to have the default currency in USD but the only display currency to be in AUD.

I was hoping that there'd be a simple solution, as unfortunately, programming (especially for something like that) is beyond me.

Re: Input price in one currency but display in another?

That's odd - because that seems to be the default behaviour that I'm getting (setting prices in USD but displaying in another (NZD) - but I want to find out how to change this.

We had loaded and priced (with attributes) all our products. Then realised when testing an order that they were in USD - but we wanted NZD. So I've changed the default currency to NZD - but now all the prices shown on the product info pages are all converted to NZD - which is different from what is shown in attibutes controller admin page.

Is there a way to be able to set the prices in the Attributes Controller as one currency (NZD) and shown on the product list & info pages as this currency? - Currently they're different. It seems that this only works if you use USD.

Thanks very much

Re: Input price in one currency but display in another?

Oh - my bad... I've just realised that this behaviour was because I had not refreshed a window that was using the old currency (USD) - which leads me to suspect that the currency is stored in the users session (maybe in a cookie). Anyway - once I closed the browser and started again it was all resolved.

An interesting side observation is that we had one test order that existed and had not been processed throught the checkout... when we opened this, it had the prices now displaying in the new currency - with the same dollar value - ie the order did not store the currency - if it had it would have been converted after the change of default currency.
