set up ID for categories and products

i just install zencart programm.
this time it came with lots of preset categories and product listings.
i deleted all of them.
when i started to create new category the ID number was 65. I presume this happened cos i had 64 categories/products pre-installed.
the questions is ...is it possible to reset the id numbers so my 1st category will have number 1. the next will be 2 and so on...
i am novice to zencart so the simplified instruction will be very handy please. many thanks to community support. :hug:

It is possible, but I suggest you should not really care about id. And id is an id, your customers wont cart about it, search engines wont care about it as well. 1 or 65 doesnt make any difference.

Problem is, if you don't take care with IDs, you can end up with duplicate product entries, which show up in your store category pages.

I have this problem due to an overabundance of zeal on the part of a helper. I want to know where there is a consecutive listing of all IDs with product names so I can get rid of duplicates and triplicates.

Unless you are messing around in the database directly, you can't get duplicate IDs - Zen Cart automatically increments them when you work through the admin.

It is possible for someone to create a product a second time with identical information, but it will always have a unique ID. So it's not IDs you need to watch out for, but product names.
