Re: SKIN Template (Apple Zen Template) or other.

Each template should come with a readme file which explains in detail how to install it. Depending on the template, the install may be very simple or it may be a bit more complex. Be sure you have followed the instructions exactly. Check in your FTP software that every file was put where it was supposed to go.

Most templates also include a JPG file which is a picture of the main page of the template. Apple Zen does not include a JPG, but you can see it in action at http://www.applezen.sagefish.com/

In the case of Apple Zen, you would copy the 'includes' folder in the zip file to your site's root, not the templates folder.

Hello

Do I have to overwrite includes folder of Apple Zen over main includes folder of my Host?

is this act safe?

My main includes folder has many many files and I can not make a backup of it. (backup for some probability dangerous)

specially we haven't copy folder if FTP file manager
I can not make a backup .

Is this overwriting is safe?

Am I right?

Tanks a lot

Re: SKIN Template (Apple Zen Template) or other.

You have to be able to make a backup of your site somehow - if you can't, you are asking for disaster someday. Ask your host, if you don't know any other way.

What FTP are you using? A good one like Filezilla will let you merge the new files and folders with the existing ones (by default). It will probably give a popup for each file it wants to replace, if any. There shouldn't be any replaced files for a new template install, unless the template is very complex.

Re: SKIN Template (Apple Zen Template) or other.

I'm not familiar with WS FTP so can't say what reputation it has.

Copying the includes folder as you describe would not take the place of a true backup (no protection against server corruption), but it would be a workable short-term safety for the FTP trial.

Re: SKIN Template (Apple Zen Template) or other.

The advice you've been given above is perfectly correct. You can let your FTP software merge all the files simply by dragging the folder into the same location on your server -- in other words, put the includes folder over the includes folder, and so on. BUT, that depends on your FTP software being able to do it, and that depends on your FTP software being set up to do it. So be sure to check your FTP software Preferences first.

Even though my software of choice can do the above automatically, I like to manually open the entire folder structure of a mod, and then manually FTP the files where they belong, creating new folders as I go if necessary. Doing it this way gives me a much clearer idea of the folder structure of Zen Cart, and where the mods end up within that folder structure. In other words, I like to know what I'm doing -- and what my software is doing.
