Is it possible to sell digital courses?

I am trying to populate my store with video courses that contain multiple lessons each containing a video and a pdf. Each course has 3 options: customers can purchase a DVD, or download the lessons/pdfs, or just view the videos. I have tried various approaches but the only success is in selling DVDs. I cannot put the courses in the download folder (they are too big), so they are on a video server.

This can be done but would require some custom development, though not a huge amount. Personally I'd do it by putting the videos on Amazon and using their expiring links facility, so that a user could always go to their account and receive a download or view link according to what they've purchased, but not pass that link on (or least there be no benefit to it being passed on).

Re: Is it possible to sell digital courses?

I have contacted Amazon about the possibilities. Meanwhile, can you clue me into the way to customize Zencart? I've created a new page (MyDigitalDownloads) that will display digital products, but I don't know how to add the php to check which products the customer has purchased. Don't know if this is the direction you mean when you say it is possible.

Re: Is it possible to sell digital courses?

The checkout confirmation page already has code that knows what a customer has purchased. If they go away and come back later the is an order history page that has code that can access the same information.

Re: Is it possible to sell digital courses?

We sell digital downloads on our Zen Cart pages by putting DownLoad Guard buttons on the pages. DownLoad Guard has an excellent Membership system. We use the Single Product Memberships to deliver the products. This does not use the Zen Cart checkout. Customers click on the button, pay, and then they are redirected to the login info for the private password protected Membership Site. In fact, we have one Zen Cart installation that only sells digital downloads:

silvadownloads.com/

Click on any category to see how we did it. We also have a site where we sell both physical products (through the Zen Cart checkout system) and digital products on the same page:

silvashop.com/cart/

To learn more about the DownLoad Guard program: dlguard.com

If you want to see a sample of how we use the Membership Site, send me and email through our Zen Cart and I will send you a link so you can check it out.

Better and better
