Can't create new category

I'm a new user working with ZC 1.3.0. Under Catelog - Categories/Products, I find a button for creating a new product but can't find a method for creating a new category. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Re: Can't create new category

Please note the caveat
Note: Subcategories can hold sub-subcategories or products, but not both at the same level.

Re: Can't create new category

I have no idea what you're trying to say. I'm just trying to create some categories for my products.

Re: Can't create new category

Kobra is saying that you can't have both subcategories and products inside a category.

Categories can contain either products or sub categories. Not both.

Re: Can't create new category

This all means ...

When a Product is added, the NEW CATEGORY button disappears ...

When a Category is added, the NEW PRODUCT button disappears ...

NOTE: if you "just started" ... why are you using that buggy, security risk, feature lacking version of v1.3.0?

Re: Can't create new category

i'm having the same problem.
i understand that the basic premise of zen cart is that you create a category, which then has either products or subcategories inside.
however, i have this problem:

http:// gusset.net/ shop

where i have only one product displayed.

if i follow the tutorial at: https://www.zen-cart.com/tutorials/index.php?article=271 i should be able to go to:

admin>> catalog >>categories/products

and choose to create a new category.

there is no "new category" button.

so, what am i doing wrong, and where do i go/how do i manage to create a new category?

in admin, i also have an additional "WARNING: You have Products in the Top Level Category. This will cause pricing to not work properly in the Catalog. Products found: 1"
however, i can't delete the product in admin. can anyone suggest a workaround?

tia.

Re: Can't create new category

As the previous posts mentioned, once you have a product in a category, you can't add subcategories to that category, even if it's the 'Top' category. Why can't you delete that product in Admin?

Re: Can't create new category

HELP....!! I have the website https://www.casusguvenlik.com and just recently installed Zen Cart plus Turkish language pack. Now, I am having an issue with adding categories. I had 2 categories added last week (i think prior to installing the language pack) and since then I cannot add any category anymore. I really don't know what I am doing wrong. Reading the tutorials and looking at the logic buttons of creating category, I am getting the screen where I have to name the category etc. But when I'd like to submit it, I return to the zen homepage automatically (?). Then when I get back into Catalog/Categories I don't see the category I was trying to add.

I asked my support (justhost), but they recommended to re-install Zen Cart. I really don't know if this is the right approach, as I have to do everything all over again I guess.

Is there anybody who recognizes this problem and does anybody have a solution? I'd really appreciate it.

Many thanks.

Re: Can't create new category

This is really strange, we suddenly started having the same problem on a shop we have been running for years.

I am trying to add a top-level category (there are already 40 top-level categories, no products in the top level obviously). It lets me go through the process of adding a category, I hit submit, and I get redirected to the admin homepage. When I go back to the category manager, no category has been added.

Running 1.3.8a
PHP 5.2.9
MySQL 5.0.81

Any ideas?

Re: Can't create new category

That's one of the possible symptoms of installing the recent admin security patch incorrectly - usually installing it to your cart rather than your admin folder.

Re: Can't create new category

Hi,

I'm having a similar problem with Products (ZC v 1.3.8a). When I select a (sub)category I get the button to Add Product, but then I just get a page with no functionality on it - no fields etc, just the default images.

Perhaps you could do a screen shot of what you are seeing so that we can have a better idea of what you see as I am not picturing it ...

Re: Can't create new category

Stevesh,

Being a very very very new user of Zen Cart, I really don't know what you mean by

"That's one of the possible symptoms of installing the recent admin security patch incorrectly - usually installing it to your cart rather than your admin folder. "

What do I need to do exactly? Which files need to be copies wherer and under which folder? Can you please be more specific? I am really out of any hope that I can get this thing fixed. Still can't add any categories after installing the turkish pack.

One suspicious thing I'd like to add is that normally the icon of adding a new category is a folder right? In my turkish language pack the icon for a new category consists of a 3-colors-pyramid-alike icon.

Please can someone guide me step by step? Really I start losing all hopes.

Any assistance is much appreciated. REALLY.

Hi, was that to me or to kaaafum? If me then tried to do a screenshot but can't can't get it small enough to attach. (19.5k??!) Imagine the add category/products page but without any buttons - just the header and footer.

Re: Can't create new category

That was to you, Kealakekua ... I am not picturing what it is you are trying to describe ...

I can see where you might not see the NEW PRODUCT or NEW CATEGORY button but not where you do not see either of them ... or do not see the icons on the right ...

You might View Source and see if the images are really not there or if they are missing from your server ...

Re: Can't create new category

Have you ever customized the /admin files or added any add-ons?

If you go to the Catalog ... Manufacturers ... does it work?

If you go to the Catalog ... Products Price Manager ... does it work?

Haven't customized/added anything. Manufacturers works but PPM doesn't. Just noticed that if I hover over the Products button there is no path showing at the bottom of the browser. Think I'll uninstall and reinstall - see if that works.
