How to Speed Up My Store?

Hey Guys,

I was wondering if there were more ways to speed up my store... I am relatively new and my store takes tons of time to load. I have already looked at the tutorial and wiki and tried to cut back where I can. But as of right now my store takes nearly a minute to load.

So I was wondering if there was a way that I could speed it up. I am currently using Startlogic for my hosting company and maybe it is them. But what factors that contribute to the speed of my site come from my host???

Turn the parse time on (admin - logging) to see how fast (or slow) your host is servering up your site.

If parse times are low 1.0 or less - look at your site. If higher - talk to your host.

Also go to your zencart admin and under tools click server/version info and it will tell you the average load and other useful info.

Might also be worth doing a google search for your hosting company and see what others think of them.

If your store has lots of images then install Image Handler 2 and make sure GZip is turned on.

Usually an overloaded server.

It's because the cache....

I just got a parse time of 9.032

Your times are all over the chart! Talk to your host about being moved to less "saturated" server or look for a new host ~ I can tell you the name of my host if you are interested!

I would be very interested in this information... I talked to my hosting company and they said there is nothing they could do but put me on a VPS for 375 dollars a year... Also they said there was about 100 to 500 other people on a server...

I had to move to a VPS recently.

Glad i did as my site is vastly improved and i no longer need to worry about moans from the hosting company about SQL queries which is all they were concerned about.

I think you will find it's more like 1000 other people on a shared server.

For me the VPS cost is more like $300 and i now know i will be sharing with a maximum of only 60 people.

Site speed improves because you no longer read off a hard drive as the site is read in memory and my hosts gear is very impressive. Thats the only reason i actually went with VPS on their servers because i know their equipment is top knotch.

Not allowed to reveal host names on here though.

Depends on the price and the computers they are using.

My server has 8 processors running and all are the same make and model - Details below.

Processor #1 Vendor: GenuineIntel
Processor #1 Name: Intel(R) Xeon(R) CPU E5430 @ 2.66GHz
Processor #1 speed: 2660.032 MHz
Processor #1 cache size: 6144 KB

The memory for mine is 256mb but burstable to 1gb. For what i pay i think its good processors and my site is fast.

The bandwidth and gigabyte allowance seems reasonable since unless you intend to have an extremely busy store it will do.

Run a Google search for best VPS hosting companies and compare the prices and features and read plenty of reviews before you commit to one.

What stats should I be looking at when trying to choose my new hosting company when I want speed?

Ask them how many others share the server if you go for shared or VPS.

Find out the memory including burstable memory quota.

Find out how much bandwidth and storage space they will give you and check the small print regarding true bandwidth as some advertise unlimited and frankly thats nonsense as they all have limits.

Try and find out what equipment they use regarding computer processors and find out whether they keep backups and how often they backup.

I'll PM you the host i use which is fast.

Shop around though as there are lots out there.

I'm curious if it really helps improving the speed of your store after changing to VPS since I'm thinking of it too ...

My website is not as fast as what I expect.. anyone can help?

I've done:

• optimize images
• compress + minify css and java script
• installed magnetic one zen performance

but still.. slow loading
