can I have 2 or more templates ftp to my host

Hi
I am new here and just had the classic template installed by my host "terranetwork" I would like to add a different template from the free templates on this site.
I notice that when I go into the tools/template section of my control panel, it offer me a drop down list of templates - but I only have one in there.
how do I install more templates to choose from.

I have already installed the "cutom folder" in includes/languages/english/etc etc for the override.

can I just down load them from this site and ftp them into my "custom folder" or the original template folde.

Thanks
Graham

You only need the "custom" folder if you are building your own template from scratch or using classic as a base.

If you install one of the free templates, they will come with their own file system built in, just follow the installation instructions that are normally bundled with the release package.

If you haven't already done so, take a look at what's available by following the link in my sig below.

The free templates all come in the correct format for Zen Cart. All you have to do is upload the folders to the correct place (depends on what the template includes). There should be a "read me" file with instructions.

For instance, let's say there's a template called XYZ. The download would contain includes\templates\XYZ\ which you would upload to your includes/templates folder, so you'd end up with includes/templates/XYZ.

Edit: Kuroi beat me to it, but I'll certainly recommend his site that allows you to see all the templates in action. I used it recently to select one to use for a prototype site I'm working on.

Re: can I have 2 or more templates ftp to my host

Thanks for the replies, I am looking at the other demos now thanks.
Regards the "custom folder" do I need this if I am going to alter the classic template (or any other template) like altering the header size, page layout or putting in a logo banner for our shop, would I lose these things on upgrading to a newer version of the cart when one comes along.

Thanks
Graham

Yes you should create a custom template folder this will be very helpful in the long run, now you might want to change the header or the width but you might need to use some of the free mods or edit some of the files. If you have the custom template you can just build on to it instead of editing core files which might cause problems when the New Zen Cart is released.

If you decide to use one of the free templates, you won't need the "custom" folders because the free templates come with their own which can give you an idea on how to set up a custom template. Any changes you want to make to one of the free templates can be made in the folders that come with it.

And... If you decide to use your own "custom", base it on the template_default folders versus the classic. Some of the classic files are older html and css formats.
