Change all customers to HTML Emails?

I just realized, after 3000 customers, that my default email preference for customers is Text.

I would like to change all of my customers to receive HTML emails as the default, is there a way I can do this easily?

I'd guess someone will provide a SQL statement that will accomplish that, but I'd think about it first. If I were one of your customers, I wouldn't be happy about having my preference changed without asking, and there are places in the world where it would be illegal.

Right, I understand that... the thing is that since it has defaulted to TEXT nobody can expect any of my customers to have intuitively checked the HTML radio button, so NONE of them have HTML.

I now have a valuable newsletter to send out, spend hours and hours designing it... and would like to provide it to my customers as a service. That I am sure they would appreciate.

I am planning to put a prominent notice in the top that says they can login to their account to change their preference.

Sure would be great if someone could help me with a sql statement. I found the table named customers_email_format but I've never changed the value like this, can anybody help?

I'd shoot you if you switched me to HTML when I want TEXT ...

You could add something to the Login perhaps announcing the update ...

Haha, OUCH. I can understand that many people might get upset. I think I'll look into your idea of an announcement.

Does zen have something like that built in? I couldn't find it. If not, can you point me in the right direction please?

Nevermind, I just went into tpl_account_default and will add a new div with the text I need to display. Thanks for the suggestions!

Just realized ive got 500 customers on text emails only.

Even myself...

I think its all because of the sign up page defaulting to text only.

I need to get these changed to html.

I will notify my customers about this change and explain the benefits of having html emails.

Can anyone help me with this please

why not send out an announcement letting people know HOW to switch it to html themselves and explain how it would benefit them, and then let THEM make the choice

thats the nice thing about being able to have different info in the html and text boxes html email subscribers will get kooler things

but like Ajeh said I would be upset if you just flipped it,
I ONLY choose text emails

I think many of the customers will not bother changing the preferences. I would like to change the preferences myself to show them the difference and then let them know this can be changed back to text at any time.

I would love to know how to do this from the zencart admin if there is a way or a sql patch

It's likely that there are many people here who could tell you how to do that, but won't. As previous posts have explained, what you want to do may be considered unethical, and, in some places, illegal.
