switch windows to linux Godady?

I used the Godaddy install for Zencart V1.3.8 on a windows server. I didn't realize Winows lls doesn't allow to set up some security measures as recomended by the forum. I would like to switch to LINUX with Godaddy. My fear is that it will break my store that I've spent so much time configuring. Has anyone tried doing this through Godaddy will I end up with a big mess.

Should I just leave as is and hope security doesn't beome an issue?
Any help much appreciated.

Re: switch windows to linux Godady?

I once changed from GoDaddy Windows to GoDaddy Linux with no problems whatsoever (apart from GoDaddy themselves being the worst host on the planet).

My advice, change hosting providers.

Re: switch windows to linux Godady?

whether going or staying....
copy the database and your override files. Load new on GONEDADDY or (hopefully) somewhere else. bring in old database and override files. update database MIGHT NOT be needed but it will tell you.

Re: switch windows to linux Godady?

Thank you for your reply. I had a test site on another URL (Godaddy hosting also) which was LINUX and switched to Microsoft llS/7. It indeed broke the store. Conclusion: follow the above reply instructions!

I was hoping that it would be a simple switch. : (

I think for now, for the site that I wanted to switch from Microsoft llS/7 to LINUX I will leave intact, although I feel 95% confident that I did put in all the overrides, I think there were a few I changed without doing so. (always a temptation)

Has anyone experienced security issues with Microsoft llS/7?
Or is there any additional security measures I can take?

Re: switch windows to linux Godady?

In your first switch, did you fix the paths in the two configure.php files?

Re: switch windows to linux Godady?

Forgive my learning curve, I didn't know there is something to change in the configure.php. Don't all the paths remain the same?

Re: switch windows to linux Godady?

Now that I am looking at the configure.php files I see what you mean.
I looked in the control panel on my hosting account but didn't really see where this path is defined. Any idea how to find the path? May have to contact host for support on this.
If I find the correct path, will this bring my whole site back?
Or are there other things that would need to be done as well.
Thank You.

Re: switch windows to linux Godady?

Yes, the correct path should bring back the site.
Your host can help you with the correct path. Probably in an online chat.

Re: switch windows to linux Godady?

Although on GoneDaddy, piscesfish is probably not in the free area.
You should make sure that the free area can actually support your needs before going any farther.
If it does, and only if it does, save your original database, images, and any override directories. Load a new version of Zen Cart on the server and run the install. Just keep it simple and overwrite the new database with the old.
Shouldn't take many tweaks after that.

You probably left out the part in red> If it does, and only if it does, save your original database, images, and any override directories. Load a new version of Zen Cart on the server and run the install. Just keep it simple and overwrite the new database with the old.
