Removing sold products from all views after qty is 0

I'm using version 1.3.8 and I can't find how to set products to NOT appear in featured or new results after they have already sold out.

Do I have to delete the product from the database to accomplish this?

Admin > Configuration > Stock > Products status in Catalog when out of stock should be set to 0

I do have Admin > Configuration > Stock > Products status in Catalog when out of stock set to 0. So the product doesn't appear in category results.
But it still appears in 'New products' results.

That's a known bug in the cart - the solution is posted at post #3 in the Known Bugs (and fixes) with v1.3.8 thread in the Upgrading from 1.3.x to 1.3.8 forum

Thank you!

That was exactly what I needed, worked perfectly.
