change order status but do not want to send customer email

I want to change order status from "pending" to "delivered" but do not want the customers to receive an email.

(explan: last yr we used the cart for orders only - no credit card taken..... and our default status was 'pending'. Now we are using the cart with credit cards, and I had the sense to change the status to 'delivered'..... (we're selling memberships to a sports center - it's basically virtual)

So our new orders are OK, with the "delivered" status, but I'm concerned if customers view their prior orders, they'll get confused if they notice "pending".

Is there any way to change the order status on the past orders without triggering an email - perhaps using phpadmin?

All you half to do is unclick the Notify Customer square box right below the Status box, then click Update..

this will change your order from pending to whatever you have choosen, and not send an email to the customer

I'm wondering still if this can be bulk-loaded via phpadmin and I will just try to do that with one of them and see what happens.

In the admin section under orders, I want to change a status label from "delivered" to say "shipped". Or simply add a 5th choice which would say "shipped". Greatly appreciate your help.
