Just some info... Although Chrome is its own project it is built from the Fire Fox platform.
So..... IF you cannot login admin in Chrome, likely you cannot in FF either and a couple others as well.
This is likely to be a session or cookie issue IF you have not edited your admin/login.php or related stylesheets.
Check your paths in configuration/sessions.... also might check your configure.php files for path errors.
Session Directory /home/yourpath/public_html/cache
Cookie Domain True
Force Cookie Use False
Check SSL Session ID False
Check User Agent False
Check IP Address True
Prevent Spider Sessions True
Recreate Session True
IP to Host Conversion Status True

I am using the latest version of ZenCart and have similar issues.
My issue is that I cannot login to a customer account, it just loops back to the home page in the 'logged out' state.
This only happens in google chrome, not IE or firefox.
the only files i have edited are the stylesheet.css and the tpl_header.php
I'm curious as to what is causing this.

Wrong Chrome has nothing to do with firefox
It is built on the Webkit platform, the same as Apples Safari browser and Comodos dragon browser
Try using Safari, if you have it and see if it works
also what version of Chrome are you using
I am using 7.0.517.41 and zencart 1.3.9g
PS If you resolve the issue please post back what you did.

Safari 5.0.2 is working on XP
Chrome version
XP version 8.0.552.5
Debian version (chromium browser) 6.0.472.62~r59676-1
Just to clarify, the site renders fine in Chrome - just not the admin page. It certainly does seem to be a Chrome issue but I have no idea where to look. I also have other sites that Chrome is unable to render.

I realise that, i am able to login to admin using chrome no problems, and have never had an issue with chrome and zencart admin.
If it was a Chrome issue there should be a lot more people having it, i am sure some other chrome users will chime in here at some stage
You don't have some weird chrome extension plugged in or something?

I am also having problems using Zen Cart with webkit based browsers. Zen Cart seems to function fine for me with FireFox and Camino, but I am unable to login to either the admin panel or the user site with Safari 5.0.2 / Google Chrome 7.0.517.44 (the most recent builds). I am also unable to login to the store front using the iPad's Safari mobile on IOS 4, but it seems to work on an iPad that is running the older version of Safari mobile (the one packaged with IOS 3). I also tested out the Mac version of Opera 10.63 and it also failed to allow me to login to the store front.
Every time I try to login to the storefront or the admin panel with any of these browsers, it gives me this error message: "There was a security error when trying to login."
I've searched the forums pretty thoroughly and this is the closest thing that I can find to the problem I'm having. Has anyone else encountered this problem? Is there a fix that anyone knows of?

Im running Chrome 8.0.552 with no problems.

Chrome is built on Webkit, Firefox is built on Gekko. Two different engines.
Chrome and Safari might share some bugs as they both use Webkit but Chrome and Firefox don't really share any codebase.
No problem using Chromium 7.0.5 on my Linux box.

I too am getting an "There was a security error when trying to login." error with google chrome 7.0.517.44 unknown.
I can login fine with safari, firefox and IE.
Originally I had an older version of chorme, v5x and I was getting a session time out error when I went to checkout.
Now, having upgraded I get the error above.
Seem suspiciously like a session\cookie issue with chorme but I can't find where to fiddle with the setting in chrome..:shocking::cry:
Any advice greatly received!

OK I'm fixed.
Having followed all the instructions in the post by Melanie I tried the
"Use root path for cookie path" true and viola!
All sorted now.:D

Thwack, what exactly do you mean by "Use root path for cookie path"? I'm running my Zen Cart on an OpenSUSE server with apache 2.12 and php5.3. I've been trying to figure out how to get webkit browsers working for days on end now. very frustrated.

I have a customer who has the same problem -- she can't login to her customer account in the ipad. Has anyone found a solution to this?

This is my first post about a seemingly unresolved and long-term problem people have encountered.
Zen Cart version 1.5.0.
CentOS 6.2
Xampp for Linux
Chrome Browser v17.0.963.79 m
Windows 7
No upgrade, no add-ons, out of the box install (5 minutes ago.)
This is a development site, sitting at an IP address.
The problem is twofold:
I do NOT get "There was a security error when trying to login" as some people have reported. Just the symptoms above.
I have tried several things from the article here:
https://www.zen-cart.com/tutorials/index.php?article=84
My access_log for the httpd service is:
192.168.2.18 - - [22/Mar/2012:23:12:58 -0400] "POST /backoffice/login.php?camefrom=index.php&zenAdminID=f857vogop9bihtehvsncmk7ba2 HTTP/1.1" 302 -
192.168.2.18 - - [22/Mar/2012:23:12:58 -0400] "GET /backoffice/index.php?zenAdminID=mi7dg23kie5n76110r4j04ngq1 HTTP/1.1" 302 -
192.168.2.18 - - [22/Mar/2012:23:12:58 -0400] "GET /backoffice/login.php?camefrom=index.php&zenAdminID=6j5pgpu20bggff503b4k96okc2 HTTP/1.1" 200 2224
192.168.2.18 - - [22/Mar/2012:23:12:58 -0400] "GET /favicon.ico HTTP/1.1" 304 -
Looks like some redirection. Not sure if this is a hint?
Then I went to this article:
https://www.zen-cart.com/tutorials/index.php?article=281
Other articles I've stumbled across mention changing PHP settings in the .htaccess files, but again, it's unclear what the settings should be.
Thanks for your time!

Also, another thing I tried from Google searches on the subject:
Toggling the "Use root path for cookie path" setting.
And jsut to confirm:
Thanks!

Try setting up a proper TLD instead of using an IP address for your HTTP_SERVER setting. Chrome seems to work a lot better that way ... and a true production-ready store won't be run off just an IP address anyway.

Well I'll be fidaddled, it worked. Took a modification to my test networks Windows 7 hosts file, but it worked.
Glad that at least my first post was thorough, and I didn't get a "read the stinkin' manual" reply. :)
On that note, I haven't noticed this with many other web applications I've worked with. My tendency for curiosity has me wondering why this is this way?
None the less, thanks for the help!

If you use ip like http://127.0.0.1 to visit zencart in chrome, that would be problem.
Better to use name, like http://localhost not ip

Can't login to admin using Chrome Version 54.0.2840.71 m (64-bit). No problem with other browsers.
I can see the login page but as soon as I try to login it goes to "Aw, Snap!" page. Information on that page does not help either.
This issue just started happening after uninstalling then re downloading new Chrome Version 54.0.2840.71 m (64-bit) then re installation and re boot.
I have read the https://www.zen-cart.com/content.php?258 page. I have not made any changes to the site.
Any ideas how to fix this issue?
