Page vs catalog?

I posted below but after rethinking decided to reword it and come at it from a different angle..... http://www.zen-cart.com/forum/showthread.php?t=126276

Once I add categories and products to my catalog....should they automatically show up on my page? Or do I have to do something to the page to get it to 'talk' to the catalog?

Thanks for any help you can give....I'm sorry to be such a 'noob' but I'm about ready to throw in the proverbial towel......:(

Re: Page vs catalog?

Nope, once you add the categories and products in admin, they should show up on your page(s).

Can you post a link to your site?

Re: Page vs catalog?

Sure Stevesh...

Thanks for taking a look.....as you can see...I've tweaked the page a bit but I shouldn't think it would impact the catalog?

Re: Page vs catalog?

I'll forgive you just this once for that awful music which plays on page load. A big mistake, IMO.

Categories and products aside, your site isn't working right. You may have some sort of database access problem.

First thing I would do is delete all the test categories and their products, then add one category with one product, so we can see what we're dealing with.

Re: Page vs catalog?

LOL.... Sorry...haven't gotten around to deleting it from the Flash script yet......I was just playing around to see if I could get it to work first.....not a completed script by any means.....But thanks for the feedback...it confirmed what I'd already thought....ha...

I'll try deleting everything as you suggest..... Actually I had already deleted all but one of the original categories in the original install from admin.....and added a few of mine....

One thought/question..... I just eliminated the old categories thinking it would blow away the products at the same time....did I cause a problem by doing that?......maybe??

Thanks again...

I'd guess that your permissions aren't set right, and your changes aren't actually happening. Who is your host?

Re: Page vs catalog?

Ok....I gave up and reloaded the the cart and reset to the database.......seems to work now..... Not sure what the problem was....now I just have to redo all my customization again....then I'm sure I'll have more questions.....

THanks for trying to help....it's nice to know someone cares enough to lend a hand....

Re: Page vs catalog?

Actually, when you haven't done much in the way of customization, re-installing is probably the best option when you run into a major problem. Done it many times myself.

Re: Page vs catalog?

Well.....

I came back in today.....decided to change my categories.....so I deleted some.....guess what....they still appeared on my site..... I added new categories....they didn't show up either...... This time I KNOW I didn't do anything to corrupt the code.....it WAS working fine then suddenly pftzzzzzz

Surely this isn't supposed to be this unstable????
