Want to disable purchasing (temporarily)
I just had a client contact me and tell me they wanted me to put "really big blinking text on every page of the site" to tell people that ordering online is not available at the moment.
They have an entire shop set up already, database filled, everything set to go - but it turns out there's a problem with the host that they are trying to work out. So until the issue resolves, they still want people to be able to look, but they don't want people to be able to buy. I guess they're getting people trying to purchase online, and not paying attention to the text on the index page (which is red, and in large text, but done tastefully and matches the site design) that online ordering is unavailable right now. But the very idea of putting a hideous 1996-type blinky ad-nauseum notification makes my skin crawl.
I know you can take the site down for maintenance, but the site is integrated pretty well with WordPress, and they can still look at the online items and order things - but they just don't want people trying to place orders online until this hosting thing is worked out. Looking at things call calling or faxing is fine with them - but they want to stop creation of accounts and putting in CC#'s until this is resolved.
Is there any way to do this? Somehow temporarily put up a page for the "create account" section that says it's disabled, and maybe something to stop CC#'s from being entered? And I'm thinking a simple popup window is a much nicer way to tell people that online ordering is not available. I'd slit my wrists before I put in "blinking text." The very idea. LOL
Anyway, if anyone knows of a contribution, or something in the admin where I can pull this off pretty quickly (I could probably take the old account-default.php file and rename it, and put up a message page - but if there's something easier, that would be awesome.) I'm pretty sure I can add a .js file to do he popup...
