Favicon on Firefox not on IE

I had great trouble getting favicon to display in IE (running IE8).

Finally, steps to sucess:

  1. edit includes/languages/english/meta_tags.php file to uncomment out the define line for favicon AND add absolute URL for the favion.ico file itself (loaded into root)

  2. Clear out ALL cached data in IE 8 - not just the temporary internet files - but ALL like browsing history, etc.

  3. Close IE / Open IE

  4. View site again and finally the favicon showed up.

Phew!
