Custom shipping module based on volumetric weight
Hello to everyone.
First of all I want to congratulate all the developers and users of ZenCart for this amazing software, as I come from another ecommerce solution that was not user configurable at all.
Anyway I am here writing this because I have no other option that to use volumetric weight with the two different carriers that I have to use and attributes are not useful for me because both have different volumetric weight rates.
I know that is not an easy task but, upt this moment, I have managed to:
1.-) Create one volumetric record for every carrier I want to use in my SQL database:

2.-) Create one volumetric record for every carrier I want to use in the product sheet (admin area):

3.-) Edit the code of my custom shipping module to get data from that volumetric weight custom fields instead of the three regular ones: weight, item and price:

4.-) And the last one was to edit the code of the file shopping_cart.php to get all of the above working fine replacing the table record variable products_weight by products_weight_vol_correos (one of my custom volumetric weight fields of one of my 2 carriers. All worked perfect up to this point!!! but I have two carriers so I (and several users I have seen in the forums too) need to duplicate the weight parameter to have additional volumetric weight fields working instead of just regular weight being replaced by one custom volumetric weight.
So if this is possible the completed customization should work this way:
One custom shipping table for carrier 1 gets data from one custom product field called volumetric weight 1, and sends this data to the file shopping_cart.php to calculate the price of the total products based on the first weight parameter for the first carrier.
One custom shipping table for carrier 2 gets data from one custom product field called volumetric weight 2, and sends this data to the file shopping_cart.php to calculate the price of the total products based on the second weight parameter for the second carrier.
I don't know if this is possible but I am very surprised as I am not a programmer and in my personal way to getting the volumetric weight working for more than one carrier, I'm suprised of all I have managed to get and I think that impossible is nothing.
So I will really appreciate any advice from Zen gurus or, why not, join forces with anyone interested into get this working.
Thanks in advance
Eric
