A Twist On "Make An Offer"

Hi Zen Cart gurus,

I'd love to have a "Make an offer" feature in Zen Cart. The way I dream of it working is this:

The user is able to set the product price variable on the catalog page and add the item to his or her shopping cart. The only change to the normal checkout procedure would be that the price of the item will be user defined. If the offer is reasonable I charge the credit card and ship the item. If not, I initiate a dialog to negotiate a better price.

I'd like to select which products have the "make an offer" feature as not everything in my store should work this way.

I'm not smart enough to make this happen myself. Does anyone else think they might be able to pull it off?

Much thanks,

Pat

Re: A Twist On "Make An Offer"

Someone else is trying to do the same thing:

Sadly we have a site that really needs the make an offer feature but it must be automated. You can edit the "tell a friend" to work as "make an offer" by changing the wording and having it e-mail to you directly. That would be pretty quick and easy.

I have a golf related site that can't have "add for price" or "call for price" because the manufacturers are THAT strict about MAP pricing. We can use "make an offer" for most and then some can't even have that. So we are going to have to build a completely different system, we did this on another shopping cart but haven't used Zen Cart long enough to know exactly how hard this will be.

We are going to have another price for "make an offer" so when someone enters the price if it is above that number it will accept and let them add it to the cart, if it is too low it will tell them sorry we can't do it for that price. We know people will go back and forth trying to find the lowest price but thats ok, we sell it for that in our store but just can't ADVERTISE that price. The items should also have a "buy it now" option which is full price and if the make an offer price is blank it shouldn't even have the "make an offer" option showing on those products.

Seems pretty hefty in this system with as many files as there are, plus it seems this can't be done simply with overrides so core files will need to be changed making upgrading ever so much harder...

Best of luck!
