How do I automate the item 'Delivered' section when order is completed?

At present whenever we make a sale, I manually go into the customer records and mark each one as delivered.

Is there any way that I can make this process automated, rather than do each one individually?

How will it know which have been delivered?

To do this manually after every sale is far too time consuming.
Can this be linked to an automatic sending email of despatch or someting?
I hope that there is some way top automate this process- how do others do this- not manually after each sale, surely?

Not necessarily after each sale, but manually, yes. Part of our order packing process involves marking orders as 'shipped' on the packing documents, and those are changed to 'delivered', usually at the end of the day.
