HELP!!! Redirect Loop at Checkout if no shipping found and FEC/COWOA installed

Can anyone help me out here, I'm struggling to find why the browser is giving me this message when I click checkout:

**Redirect Loop

Firefox has detected that the server is redirecting the request for this address in a way that will never complete.

The browser has stopped trying to retrieve the requested item. The site is redirecting the request in a way that will never complete.

* Have you disabled or blocked cookies required by this site?
* NOTE: If accepting the site's cookies does not resolve the problem, it is likely a server configuration issue and not your computer.**

Can anyone please help?

OK, this gets stranger.... it only happens when there is more than one item in the cart!!

It's cost me a few sales as I now know why I get a lot of bailed carts with more than one item in them, whereas I get hardly any single item bailed carts!

Can anyone please shed some insight on this?

Getting stranger again... it's not the number of items in the cart, it's the weight of the items. As soon as they go above 2kg, I get this error. WEIRD!! Has anyone seen anything like this before?

You also have another problem which may be costing you sales. I created an account on your site a while back in response to one of your posts. Now, when I try to log in using that email address and password, I get the red bar telling me that no such account exists. However, if I try to create a new account using those data, I get the error message telling me that email address already exists in your database, so I can't log in without creating a new account.

OK, I've narrowed this down but it doesn't get any clearer. It only happens to one customer, not to everyone! Not only that, it only happens to this customer when she has three specific items in her cart. It doesn't happen to her with other cart combination's.

If Customer Jane Doe has these three items in her cart then it goes into the redirect loop when she clicks checkout:

I've tried the same cart combination on other accounts and it goes through with no problems.

Do you think it has something to do with the fact that the customer has four addresses registered on her account? Although that wouldn't explain why it only happens with those three products in the cart at the same time.

It's letting me 'log in as customer' on both of your accounts, so can't understand it... Would you be able to click the 'forgotten password' link... would that cure the problem on the original account?

I can checkout with 16x test products (9.6kg)

but it fails at 17 x test products 10.2kg

further testing shows me that your cart adding to over 10kg is causing a problem when directed to ;

It's strange this redirect loop. It's only happening to one customer. I noticed it when I logged in as her to help her complete an order. She hadn't been clicking the 'Credit Card' (checkout) button though, she'd been clicking the Paypal button and she'd been getting her problems in Paypal. Here's the message she sent me:

I have been trying to checkout an order on your site for the last 2 days via paypal and each time i go i select the address to send the items to and from here nothing happens. I have tried this on 2 PC's now and cannot proceed to checkout these items ? Are you aware of any issues that may be hampering my efforts ?

When i clicked the checkout with Paypal button - i was transferred to Paypal - logged in ok and came to verify my shipping address - when i hit the continue button to confirm payment the page hangs and never actually goes to the confirm payment page

Obviously, whatever is causing this weird redirect loop on this customers account, it also causing the problems in her Paypal checkout process.

Do you think it's something to do with her 'state' or 'address'??

OK, it doesn't work for me either at 10.85kg on any account.

I would start looking at includes/modules/pages/checkout/header_php.php

(just downloaded FEC) that I believe you are using... have you modified the above file???

There are some references to the shipping methods... and that would steer me towards checking your shipping configs...

OK, I removed .htaccess and that eliminates that... it's nothing to do with it... it's definitely something to do with the shipping weight....

Over 10kg to UK and it goes into a redirect loop... over 2.5kg overseas and it goes into a redirect loop.

I thought maybe due to max. weight settings in shipping modules so I tried modifying the Royal Mail payment modules by adding 30:100 to the shipping rates but still goes into a loop.

So, here's hoping it's something to do with the header_php.php file.... here's a url to the file contents:

I don't see any old versions of this file, so I can't have ever modified it.

I had Royal Mail modules set to make anything over 10kg uncalculatable (is that a word)... Basically, only had up to 10kg in the shipping rates for UK and 2kg in the shipping rates for international packages.....

This has obviously caused a weird redirect loop... Upping the weights in the shipping modules area has cured this!

Glad I've gotten to the bottom of this... it's been annoying me :-)

Does anyone know if there's a way to redirect a customer to a "contact us for shipping quote" page if their cart exceeds the Royal Mail maximum weight?

At present, Royal Mail will only post 10kg on Special delivery and 2kg on International Signed for.

I know there are other options like datapost for heavier international packages etc., but I prefer to shop around the different couriers when a parcel exceeds Royal Mail weights so that I can get the best deal for the customer.

Ideally, if the customers cart exceeds the max weights, they should be redirected to a shipping quote page rather than put into a redirect loop/browser error....

Anyone know of a way to do this?

Glad you got to the bottom of the problem... Not sure if there is a mod for you to redirect to a "contact us" page. Would probably be better to sort out your shipping options...

At the moment I have free shipping on everything, but when I switch back to normal shipping charges, I'll just have to enter all the tarrif variations for 10kg+ 10.1:21 10.2:22 ............ 29.9:49 and more importantly, for Euro and Zone 2 shipping modules, 2.1:21, 2.2:21.50.........29.9:69.50 not looking forward to that :cry:

Have confirmed that if no shipping solution is found with FEC/COWA installed, you get the redirect loop.

Having some catch-all shipping mod that shows up no matter what seems to solve this (but doesn't really fix the underlying problem). I'm not sure if I should dig into fixing the problem, or make a shipping module that just says "Call us to arrange shipping". Either way, I have a client in need of a solution so one way or another...

Yeah, took me a while to figure out what was causing it. If you ever manage to figure a way to say, "call for a shipping quote" when weight exceeds shipping modules tariff then please post your methods.
