Category Numbering after re-organisation

In rebuilding my shop, I consolidated many categories into a lesser number, deleting the surplus categories and re-numbering the remaining category_ids to suit.

However, upon adding a new category, the new category_id is continuing after the old arrangement. (ie highest id was 73, now 51, but new category_id is 74)

Is there any way to reset the category_id to follow after the new arrangement (ie 52 rather than 74).

TIA

Try Admin>Tools>Store Manager>Reset ALL Products Master Categories ID

Hope this helps.

Get Em Fast:

Try Admin>Tools>Store Manager>Reset ALL Products Master Categories ID

Thanks. That was the first thing I tried, but to no avail.

I have also totally reloaded the site and rechecked the structure.

I suspect the problem lies in mySQL, (possible auto-increment or index), but I do not wish to tinker therein without clear direction.

Re: Category Numbering after re-organisation

Backup your database then you can run:

ALTER TABLE categories AUTO_INCREMENT = XXX;

where XXX is the new value you want used next ... :smile:

Ah Ajeh; I've been wondering just how to do that myself! Thanks for that nugget of wisdom!
