Allow Single product to checkout when sold out (pre-order)

If my admin / config / stock is set to:
Check stock level true
Subtract stock true
Allow Checkout false
Show Sold Out Image in place of Add to Cart 1

I want it to be a preorder item.
Thus wondering if it is possible to single out products to be unique from the rest and allow customers add that item to cart and check out even when quantity is 0?

You would have to customize the code to not treat these products like all other products ...

There is nothing built in to manage products in two separate manners where "Sold Out" is used but then "Not Really Sold Out, Just Looks Like It's Sold Out" ... :cool:
