how do I reduce my prices in mark up ?

hi there when i made my site i was told to enter this into the admin panel>tools>install SQL patches UPDATE products SET products_price = products_price * 1.80; It marked my prices up by 80% if i typed in UPDATE products SET products_price = products_price - 1.25; will it reduce my prices by 25%

No... this will SUBTRACT 1.25 from each product.

To reduce your prices by 25% use UPDATE products SET products_price = products_price * 0.75;

thanks chet !! as i have over 6000 products is there a way i could check it would work with out losing all the prices i have already ?
