Translate page/website

Hi again

Is there a mod available to integrate a 'translate this page/site' button to appear on each page of my site.

I know there are systems like babelfish that a user can integrate into their browser to do this but if the option appeared as a simple 'TRANSLATE' button on my site (using babelfish or a.n.other translating service) this would indeed be cool.

I have dabbled with online auction sofftware, PHPProbid in the past and this mod was certainly available for that software in php but personally I wouldn't know where to begin to convert that mod to work on zencart.

Anybody??

Cheers

Rob

I believe there is a google translate sidebox, but it's largely ineffective. You need to install language packs.

Re: Translate page/website

I have found a website by the name of http://translation.weblite.ca that seems to do what I want but I have taken the html code and inserted it into the top of the define_main_ page.php and it shows up fine but I can't quite get it to work.

Re: Translate page/website

Trouble with all these translation scripts/functions, is that the minute someone adds products to cart, invokes a PHP function, or calls data off the database, the site will revert to default language. These things are only good for flat HTML sites - not for dynamic content sites.

So, then do the language packs work or not?

Re: Translate page/website

The zen cart language packs I've used work fine (Spanish and Norwegian packs)

If the developer of a specific zencart language pack has followed the zencart language pack protocols, then they will work for the entire site.

These language packs do practically all the work of changing the DEFINE CONSTANTS in the language.php files...

However, any content that is stored in the database (such as product data - names, descriptions, etc), has to be manually translated. This includes your ezpages.

Additionally the defined pages need to manually translated.

Re: Translate page/website

Language packs are not like "translate" buttons; they have actually been manually translated to get the most accurate or best-worded text equivalents in the given language.
If you have customized the English text for parts of your site, you will probably want to customize the corresponding text in the language pack. Define pages and ez-pages are inherently site-specific, and would need to be individually translated in any case.
