Brand New to ZenCart and Needing Help PLEASE...

And that's not all... How are you going to split up an order and add shipping when:-

Dropshipper A charges by WEIGHT
Dropshipper B charges by WEIGHT AND DISTANCE
Dropshipper C charges by ITEM
Dropshipper D charges a FLAT FEE.

... you now need serious good luck! :D

... and then there's the possibility that:

The client receives the packages from

Dropshippers A, B and C... but the packet from D gets lost.

... and then the customer wants to RETURN the product fro dropshipper B becuase it's not what he expected...

... so WHERE does he return it to, and how are refunds handled?

... if he returns it to you (which he is legally entitled to do as you sold it to him), you must now bear the cost of returning it to the dropshipper, issuing a refund to the customer, and getting the dropshipper to refund you.

Hey... ask me why I'm firing all these things off at you... ?

I have a client who spent two years running a site like the one you propose. These are just SOME of the logistical nightmares he experienced before he changed course and stopped with dropshipping.

Oh I understand completely. We already have had to face these issues with our EBay store. I can handle the customer facing stuff as long as I can find a way to program the website to calculate shipping one item at a time.

Do you have any idea how I can keep the changes I've now made from being reverted back to the defaults going forward? I just don't want to have to keep reconfiguring everything. :D

Once a change is made, it stays there... The only problem may be that you are editing core files and saving them to their default folders instead of saving them to your over-ride folders (custom template). When you upgrade, core files are generally overwritten, and this will revert the core files to their original state.

Hmmm, well I've now made my changes in new folders labeled 'magic' so hopefully they won't go away. Just can't imagine why my configurations which were done via the admin panel (like 'my store' and 'taxes', etc) all reverted back to the standard defaults overnight. Oh well, as long as it's not something I forgetting to do and hopefully won't happen again.

OK, I've decided to start over as I think it'll be easier to start with a nice clean slate....

Ah... so you did do something to your database. :D

Yes, I deleted and reloaded Zencart on Tuesday. i figured it was just better to start with a clean slate. So on Tuesday I set all my configurations, etc using the ZenCart book as a guide.

Then when I signed in yesterday all my work was gone and it was back to the defaults. So I spent yesterday redoing what I had done on Tuesday.

Now this morning I sign in and it's done it again (reset everything back to the defaults). Now I'm having to redo this for the third time. What the heck is going on? :censored:

Only thing that makes sense to me is that your server is restoring the db every day from a backup ??

Have you put a couple of products in , to see if they disappear, too?

No not yet. I'm just trying to get the shell of the website built before I start listing products. I mean my categores disappear, my languages, my taxes...everything. Should I contact Hostgator and see if it's something from their side? Don't mean to vent just getting very frustrated.

Ok so after having it happen again this afternoon I called Hostgator who suggested the problem was with the permissions as they were set to 444. They had me back-up the files and uninstall ZenCart and reinstall it under it's own directory (Public_html/zen/...) so we could set the permissions to what they needed to be. We've now done this but now I can't see my webpage at all becasue we have nothign under the direct Public_html folder. They now state they don't know how to proceed from here so what do we do now?? Is there a redirect or something?

Never mind he found someone who knew what to do. Looks like I'm OK, other then having to have permissions set to 755 until after I'm done with all my configurartions.
