Free Shipping PLUS express options

Good morning! Could someone please point me in the right direction? I am happy with my present set-up of free shipping over a certain value within the UK only. However, the free shipping option offered is a standard method of despatch, sometimes customers want to pay extra for express shipping. How can I get these other shipping options to show even when the free shipping value has been reached?

Thank you.

Re: Free Shipping PLUS express options

Use the Free Shipping Options freeoptions shipping module and set the setting for:
Total >= XXX

where XXX is the value for Free Shipping ...

And set the Zone to be your Zone for the UK ...

Edit the Modules ... Order Totals ... Shipping ot_shipping and turn off the Free Shipping in there ...

This should now show your regular shipping modules plus an optional Free Shipping when the order total is >= XXX ...

Re: Free Shipping PLUS express options

 I'm also doing this and it works great... but:

What if you want to show those other shipping options that are in addition to free shipping and you're displaying the option you actually use for free shipping. For example:

You have several custom built shipping tables:
USPS Priority 2-3 Day
UPS-Next Day Air
UPS-2nd Day Air
UPS-3 Day Select
UPS - Ground

and with the above recipe you now also offer:
Free Shipping

and you happend to use "USPS Priority 2-3 Day" when you 'free ship' so you do not want to offer this as an option yet you want to offer the UPS options. Is there a way to do this without having to go into the code and create a php conditional? (there are zones where free shipping is not an option so the USPS does need to appear)

Re: Free Shipping PLUS express options

You would need to customize the code to know when not to show a particular shipping module ...

Re: Free Shipping PLUS express options

just adding to my above post - l'm thinking maybe my shipping issue is slightly different.

Currently the store is set up to give free shipping to all orders over $75. My client wants those free shipping orders to then have the option of having a $7 express service, but they have to be the only ones that can see it, so it can't show up with the other normal shipping options, BUT it should show up with the free shipping option at checkout.

I followed the instructions above, but when l turn off the standard free shipping module in Order Totals, all that happens is that the Free Shipping Option shows up as a shipping option that costs $7.00, and all of the other standard shipping modules show up too.

So something that is only meant to be seen by people who have spent over $75 can now be seen by everyone, and there is also now a $7 charge for free shipping with no other free option if they choose to not upgrade.

Is there a better way of getting around this?

Re: Free Shipping PLUS express options

You would need to customize your shipping modules to manage when to show or not show based on the total of the order ...

If you want to see, when the order is >= $75.00:
Free Shipping $0.00
Express Shipping $7.00

and when <= $75.00 you want to see whatever other shipping modules you have installed, then you have to customize the shipping modules further to manage when the:
$this->enabled

is true or false based on the order amount in each module ...

What are all of the shipping modules that you have installed?

Re: Free Shipping PLUS express options

l'm just wondering if it would be easier to clone the freeshipper module and have two, one with free shipping set to 0.00 and one with it set to 7.00. ls that even possible or am l messing too closely with the inner workings of everything? I've seen how other shipping modules are cloned, but am not sure if freeshipping is set up differently. (I'm not a coder but can find & replace) ;-)

Re: Free Shipping PLUS express options

Free Shipping freeshipper is a special shipping module ... you really do not want to try cloning this unless you are really excellent at what you are doing ...

It would really make it easier to say what approach to use if you could tell us what shipping modules you are using for everything ...
