Deleted Header and now I need it back...

I am new to Zen Cart and I have used this forum for great information. Thank you for a great site.
I have created a custom template and deleted the header. I did not think I was going to need it, I was wrong. I just want to add a simple Header that will include a logo along with a separate Navigation Bar to link it to other pages (Home, Contact us, etc. from an existing web page I am building).
I am not sure what file to make these changes to. I am familiar with code and css style sheets. Any help would be great!

You sure have!

How did you delete it. Did you edit a file called tpl_main_page.php? If so then you need to look for that file in the default template and copy it back into your own template.

For future reference it is easy to stop elements displaying using the stylesheet.css file. That way you do not need to edit the templates.

For instance, if you didn't want the header to display you could use a style that says:

#headerWrapper{display:none;}

Header Wrapper is the div that holds the whole of the header.

I don't know what you have changed in the few hours since you first posted, but all you are missing now is the logo/tagline. You should be able to turn on the EZ-Pages header menu in Configuration > EZ-Page Settings > EZ-Pages Display Status - HeaderBar to show the links you mentioned.
If you deleted the logo code from your template, you can replace it from /includes/templates/template_default/common/tpl_header.php.

I deleted it from the main_page.php like you said and from my style sheet. I was able to go and get the default file.

Now, when I switch over to the classic template I can see the header, but not when I am in my custom template. I have the EZ page header turned on. Is it because I took it off my style sheet?

What file of mine am I supposed to copy the logo code into?

Your custom stylesheet could control the look of the ez-page bar, but leaving it out of the stylesheet will not hide it - you need a positive "display: none;" to do that.
Do you have any ez-pages set to display?

The logo code goes in the same place in your custom template tpl_header.php file as it is in the /template_default/ file. If the code is not missing, do you have a logo.gif file in /includes/templates/your_template/images/ ?

No, I do not have any EZ pages set to display. Do you think that could be the reason?

I don't recall offhand if the ex-page headerbar displays if there is no content for it, but you can test that by making and enabling a test ez-page.

I'm having the same problem, I'm using a fresh ZC install version 1.3.8 with the Free template 1

Everything went well editing some CSS and the main page.
The logo as was showing.
But when refreshing the page after some other changes I noticed the header is missing. I tried to a new stylesheet.css but the problem remains. The only other thing I changed was the includes/languages/ENGLISH/index.php file to change the "Congratulations! you have successfully installed..." Message.

I also tried this: If you deleted the logo code from your template, you can replace it from /includes/templates/template_default/common/tpl_header.php.

This doesn't help.

Where did you get the "free template 1"? It is based on a very old version of Zen Cart (around v1.3.0) and is probably not fully compatible with v1.3.8.

The logo code always goes in /includes/templates/your_template/common/tpl_header.php.
