Membership Based Pricing, Specific Ques, Sorry for Noobishness

I have done some searching on the forums, but I apologize in that I did not find the information I was looking for, probably due to me not really knowing what information I need.

I have ZenCart setup with a fairly basic product lineup, however the pricing scheme is a little tricky.

We are providing the ability for members of a professional organization to A) pay their dues and B) register for seminars and events. I think I have due paying figured out, there are different costs for membership based on factors such as: renewal, new membership, student, industry. The problem comes in with the pricing of the seminars. Members and non-members receive different pricing for seminar and event registration, however, it is not a flat % and varies from even to event. Adding further complexity is there are early registration discounts if they register before a certain date and bundle discounts if they register multiple events early. I assume I just create a seperate product for a bundle, and for the special pricing I just apply a special to each product with a specific expiration date.

My question/s then are:

1. How do I have ZenCart recognize whether a user is a member or non-member automatically when registering for an event, and apply the correct pricing and discount amount if they are early?

2. Can ZenCart change a member to a non-member if they have not renewed dues by a certain date?

You have to write software to handle requirements like this; there's nothing built in.

If you're associated with this organization (rather than just designing the site for them), maybe you could nudge them in the direction of simplifying their pricing structure so that a program as powerful as Zencart could handle it. I'd be surprised if there's any practical reason that the discount can't be a %, or it has to vary by seminar.

We see a lot of very complex product pricing and shipping pricing schemes here that seem totally arbitrary and must cause their inventors more trouble than they can possibly be worth.
