Error When Removing "Congratulations" Message

I am trying to remove the "congratulations" message on the home page of my site, http://www.thediaperbagdiva.com, I have followed the tutorial 9 million times and each time I edit the
public_html/includes/languages/english/dbdivatemp/index.php, an http error 500 appears on my site. HELP this is so frustrating!!!

Re: Error When Removing "Congratulations" Message

What program are you using to edit the file?

The method in the tutorial works fine for me, so you're introducing an error somewhere.

Re: Error When Removing "Congratulations" Message

As stevesh mentioned, the program you used to edit the php file may have created a problem. Use a good text editor like Notepad++ or Crimson Editor to edit the file on your local drive (your computer) and FTP it to your site. Filezilla is a good free FTP client.

Anyway, ncludes/languages/english/dbdivatemp/index.php says (color added for clarity)

  // This section deals with the "home" page at the top level with no options/products selected
  /*Replace this text with the headline you would like for your shop. For example: 'Welcome to My SHOP!'*/
  define('HEADING_TITLE', 'Congratulations! You have successfully installed your Zen Cart™ E-Commerce Solution.');
} elseif ($category_depth == 'nested') {
  // This section deals with displaying a subcategory
  /*Replace this line with the headline you would like for your shop. For example: 'Welcome to My SHOP!'*/
  define('HEADING_TITLE', 'Congratulations! You have successfully installed your Zen Cart™ E-Commerce Solution.');
}

To remove the "congratulations" entirely, change it to

  // This section deals with the "home" page at the top level with no options/products selected
  /*Replace this text with the headline you would like for your shop. For example: 'Welcome to My SHOP!'*/
    define('HEADING_TITLE', '');
} elseif ($category_depth == 'nested') {
  // This section deals with displaying a subcategory
  /*Replace this line with the headline you would like for your shop. For example: 'Welcome to My SHOP!'*/
    define('HEADING_TITLE', '');
}

Otherwise, add the text of your choice between the single quotes.

Re: Error When Removing "Congratulations" Message

I have just been editing the file in my file manager which is on my control panel, could that be the problem?

Re: Error When Removing "Congratulations" Message

Hard to say. Maybe try it afo's way and see. You are removing both instances of the text, right?

Re: Error When Removing "Congratulations" Message

I sure am. I even copied the original code, "pre-edit" and copied it onto a different document just in case the error message appeared again after the edit, which it did, so I pasted the original code back in the index.php file and re-saved it, but the error message was still there. Sorry for the world's longest sentence.

Yes. The editor in file manager doesn't play well with php files. Use a good text editor for php files.

Because that's the name of kaydeem's custom template. Replace that name with the name of your template and you'll find index.php.

Re: Error When Removing "Congratulations" Message

Thanks for your help. I am now having trouble with my ftp program, nothing shows up in the "remote site" pane. Hopefully once I get that resolved I will be able to edit index.php in front page. I am crossing my fingers that will make a difference.
