Additional VAT field to customer application

Hey everyone,

I googled "adding extra fields to customer details" and I found a mod designed by the Oracle - http://www.zen-cart.com/index.php?main_page=product_contrib_info&products_id=587

I just wondered if this is what I would require to add a VAT field for customers creating a new account, I'm currently running 1.3.8a and I'd rather make sure it's safe first.

I'd like to make the VAT field mandatory as well as the shop is for wholesale purposes (shop to shop).
